Where would I find that without a link? I cannot go onto the UD Website and look for something like that.

    Two things will happen:

    1. It will take over 2 weeks and I still won't find it.

    3. I will smash a brand new 28 inch Mac Computer

First response in the thread has it provided courtesy our talented and awesome Hockey Team Manager. It's also a sticky in this forum.

I saw that and learned nothing. In one guys post he says that there are 10 variations. Instead of being quad confused, now I'm 10 times confused.

Does a Rainbow Parallel have a serial number? How do you tell the difference between a Rainbow and a Metal X ?

    I found this on Beckett:

    Quote:

Gold = white border around O-Pee-Chee logo
Metal = chrome border around O-Pee-Chee logo
Metal X = refract light and have levels of pattern (none, light, medium, dark)

This poster says that there are 4 levels of X. Does Upper Deck know?

Thanks to everyone for their efforts. Sorry for being a pain in the Arse, but I hate when manufacturers cannot even answer questions about their own inventions......

All literature points to "Nobody really knows"

I found a UD comment that only says Gold and Metal X, no variations of Metal X by shading, no tire-tracks or mountaintops.

UD says that the Metal X has a Rainbow finish to distinguish it from the Gold Parallel, but is not serial numbered.

Just adds to the confusion. I officially give up, as my life is more important than this, and I have larger fish to fry.

The Metal X set has different looks. Some have the "treadmark" pattern and some don't and some appear darker than others. The easiest way to tell is by the bordering around the o-pee-chee logo. white borders mean gold, chrome borders without refracting mean metal and refracting means metal x.
The 08-09 OPC parallels are a complete clutterbuck, I don't think I've ever met anyone who wasn't confused.

Don't worry about that "variation within a variation" stuff - it only makes matters worse. When you have the cards in front of you, it's actually pretty easy to tell. It's the matter of ensuring that you get the right cards in front of you in the first place where things can get confusing.

    Maybe this will help:

MacLeish: Metal-X Has lines going down the card
Briere: Gold or Rainbow has reflection look of a rainbow and the color (orange) at the bottom is not shinny
Vaananen: Metal The whole card is super shinny with no rainbow look
