Comparing Rookie Royalty's to SPA FW's
I love both of these sets, I'm really into the crown royale right now and have always loved future watch auto rc's. Fw's are out of /999 and rookie royalties are out of just /499. now I know the FW's have all the best rookies and the best rookies in crown royale are the silhouettes, however there are still a few really good rookies in the royalty set such as PK Subban, Bobrovsky, Burmistrov, Johansson, Morin, Wellwood etc.
So my issue i guess is that the rookie royalty's are valued/selling way too cheap. They are both "on card" auto's.
So for example the Subban crown royale is selling anywhere from $28-60. That seems very low. I guarantee his future watch will go much higher which doesn't make sense. Maybe because it's a redemption (royale), but it's still just as good imo.
I got a subban rookie royalty's redemption. I'm thinking about just redeeming it myself rather than trade it. I think it should be valued higher than his future watch when that comes out. So when burmistrov's and bobrovsky's future watches come out, I'm sure they will go higher than the crown royales as well.
So what do you guys think? I think Crown Royale is a super nice set, and the on card auto's and die cut card design is so nice. Do you feel they are selling too low and should be valued higher than the future watch for that particular player. The silhouettes obviously rank by themselves

SPA is a much more established set and is widely collected. Even though there are double the FWs printed, the demand is so much higher for SPA RCs than RCs for a debut (sort of) set, therefore the value of the Royales is much lower due to less demand from set collectors.

but people really seem to love crown royale and the product panini is putting out. sure there are too many redemptions but once they are all live it's no difference. i totally get what you are saying, i love fw's as well and consider them one of the must have rc's for a player if not my fav one, but these rookie royalty's are sweet too if you get one of the better ones like Subban like I did.
do you think this will change, and maybe sooner than later, these cards will get more respect?

SPA has been producing auto rookies since 01-02 I think. That's almost 10 years for it to build a following. While Crowne Royale has been produced in the past, it never included auto rookies. It's possible for these to eventually gain more respect but it will take some time. I agree with you though, the Rookie Royaltys are some great looking cards.

It will be interesting to see how all the values pan out with all of these cards over the next little while.
I haven't really looked too hard yet to see how the Hall/Eberle/Skinner Silhouettes are doing - I see that the Hall is fetching pretty peak dollars (especially the #4/99 w/the inscription) but haven't compared that with what Tavares was doing last year for his SPA FW. Obviously they're the big three for this year while Subban's values have settled at the top of the second tier. $40 for his Crown RC right off the bat seems very reasonable to me in comparison to what the SPx is going for - UD has a bit of an upper hand (no pun intended) over Panini for him because they were able to get a photoshoot jersey of his from last year's session. To date all of Panini's RCs have had him in lower tier of just being AU RCs. While the Crown will have the advantage of being hard-signed, it is lacking in the MEM.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

well you can't compare the silhouettes to future watches. silhouettes are on a level of their own, way better than the fw's. future watch limited is another story and that's more comparable though. but i just meant the rookie royalty's of the better players in that set compared to the same players future watch.
for example a subban rookie royalty on card auto /499 should be valued much higher than his future watch auto /999 when it comes out but it's clear it won't be at this point because SPA has the rep and following

Personally I would not even consider going for the rookie Royalty as i do not like die cut cards. Does not compare to the solid basic design of the Future watch autos. As with more of Paninnis stuff this year i find they tend to over design

It's definitely one of those things where it be a fine line between love and hate. Personally I'll take these over the chemical warfare-laced Artifacts any day of the week. Panini went for a look of real elegance with these cards and it works for me. In Harm's Way looks really cool with the border all around the photo and those Rookie Silhouettes are out of this world cool. I like Die Cut stuff too - it's nice to have something beyond the standard rectangular piece of cardboard for a change. Given the set title, appropriate too. LOL

.................................................. .................................
Crown Royale Base Cards and Non-Serial Numbered Insert Sets from 1997-2004 have always been nicer than SP Authentic and much more thought and design put into them.
The nicest insert card ever made is the 97-98 Crown Royale Freeze-Out Die-Cuts of the Netminders. They are beyond outstanding.
The only year that SPA destroyed the collecting field was 99-00 The Future Watch Rookies from 99-00 are still the nicest designed Rookies ever produced.
