I hated the shootout at the beginning. Now I kind of like it. Whatever the league decides becomes the rules and that's the game we watch. What I don't like is 3 point games. If you want a definite winner, give the winner 2 points and the loses none.

I can appreciate using the shootout, but I would still prefer seeing a 10-minute overtime session with the first five minutes played 4-on-4 and the last five played 3-on-3. I don't give a flying hoo-hah about "fatigue factor" ... we're talking about pro athletes here. An extra five minutes won't kill them. And the fact is, the OT session is often the most exciting part of the game, at least from an offensive standpoint.
Somawilt is right on here ... you shouldn't end a game involving two 23-man teams with a glorified skills contest. It betrays the purpose of the competition.

I like the shoot-out. Always have, always will.
What i don't likw is the "3-point" games. How about this? 2 points for a win in regulation or overtime. 1 point for a shootout win. ZERO points if you lose, no matter the situation.

I want to say, I do not like the shootout, but I have never turned one off while it is happening. If I had my preference, they wouldn't exist.

I like the shoot out but it shouldn't mean anything in the standings. Keep the single point.

The NHL shootout has ruined the game IMHO. Its garbage. You will never see the stanley cup decided by a shootout ever. Playoff games will never be decided by a shootout.
Save that fancy garbage for the allstar game. Penelty shots are not exciting anymore because of the shootout.
That used to be a spectacle. A rare one at that.
This game is a team sport and outcomes should be decided by the team not individuals.

The trend remains the same. Majority of American like the shootout because they must be entertained. Entertainment is like cocaine or heroin to them.
Majority of Canadians hate the shootout because it is not a team concept and cheapens the Sport.
I detest them.

When you reach overtime or shootout your automatically going to get 1 point. If you win you get an extra point. you never get 3.

No kidding. 3 points are handed out in the standings, though (2 to one team, 1 to the other) which is stupid.

I don't like them to be honest, hockey is a team sport and shootouts are individual.
I also think all games should be worth 3 points - 3 for regulation win, 2 points for OT or SO winner and 1 point for OT or SO loser.
