I wish all athletes/ celebs when signing TTM or IP, took the time to ask for names & Personalized everything. That would end the sales right away. Who would want a Raymond Berry auto, personalized to John & your name is Bill? I wouldnt. But i do realize in this day & age, there is NO WAY for a IP signer to stop, take a breath & get some names, just wont happen.

That won't work. You can just erase the personalization...Unless you're like John Mayer and weave the personalization into the autograph itself!

When I met Jeff Bagwell a few years back (my biggest baseball hero) I asked him if he wouldn't mind personalizing it and he said of course. Signed it "To Trey, Best wishes - Jeff Bagwell." I met Roy Oswalt at the same time and asked if he'd do the same and he signed my name too. Some guys will do it if there is time, some won't.
I think the key is to ask quietly to where not everyone is going to start asking for personalization. I usually only ask if it's someone I'm a big fan of like most Astros and Texans.

When I do IP graphing everything is for me. I do not intend on selling anything. I actually recently gave a couple of Islander auto's on pucks away to a co-worker for his daughters, they were both extras. The only auto I have ever sold was a extra Mike Piazza ball to a co-worker who begged me for it. It was for his 10yr old boys b-day. He gave me $20 for the cost of the ball. He said he would have paid more and we all know I could have gotten more.
When I go for IP auto's, I will have an assortment of things to get signed. But, I only get 1 item signed from each player. Just because we have all those different things to get signed, doesn't mean we are necessarly a dealer.
I am trying to get rid of some of my cards on ebay. No auto's. I'm try to stop collecting cards and just collect auto's and memorabiliaLast edited by howiek; 03-23-2011 at 08:05 PM.

Eraser is good. Or nail polish remover for glossy cards. I don't really like personalizations on cards because in some cases, it can cover most of the card...

It's just annoying how I go out there and have to compete with everyone else when my stuff is going to my collection. I end up with half assed signatures because they probably start to assume that it's going to be sold. I know there was just me and maybe one other guy with hockey cards. Also had some 4x6 photo cards I got from requesting fan packs from different teams.
Everyone else pucks, jerseys, posters what have you. And I even had team set cards from the Bruins AHL team, tell me I don't stand out as a collector. A dealer wouldn't think twice about those I'm sure. Pucks probably sell better.

Yeah, worst dealers are the ones at hotel, with their full-size team helmets and jerseys, and endless photo stack, even for that obscure bench rider...
Add that to their pushy, aggresive attitude and you can see why graphers have such a bad rep. But they will always be there. Just be glad you don't have to deal with those LA and NY graphers
