What happend to prices on boxes ?????

Wow my son has been asking me to buy a box or two to open and today I was looking and WOW what happened to the prices the all are up from 08-09 to now. Was looking at getting a box of 08-09 topps hardwood and I remember paying like $90 for a box a few months ago and there up to $183.00 we liked busting those but not for that price. Anything anymore is over $100 unless you buy a box that has one pack in it Limited is $71 what fun is that for him. LOL He pulled the best card outta the Donruss already a Kobe craftsman gu/auto /25 so dont think I want to buy anymore of those. Just alittle Rant. Thought Panini was suppose to make it more affordable but I guess thats out the window now huh. Thanks for listening guys. Now I have to go tell little man no cards this time.

Well with 08/09 you have a lot of the rookies from that year in the playoffs so people are capitalizing on the situation by raising prices.

I suggest you try Donruss from this year. That would be pretty fun for a kid. Lots of packs a few hits and a lower price. Also, if you're looking for a lower priced 08-09 product, try Lineage. It's still priced low.

yeah you can thank the 08-09 rookie class, and panini, they overcharge for all there crappy products, and clearly dont care about the people who keep them afloat.

I don't know that it is Panini having high prices as much as it is retailers and wholesalers jacking up the prices

Yep, between Rose/Westbrook in the playoffs, and Kevin Love's hobby love going up, it makes sense the product costs more.

I don't know that it is Panini having high prices as much as it is retailers and wholesalers jacking up the prices

Panini sells their product at the same price to all distributors, from there the distributors want to make their money so they raise the price, after that your LCS owner/online dealer needs to make some money, so again another raise in prices.

So its not Panini, they sell at their standard price, its all the distributors that need to make their money as well. In this case its supply and demand.

For the 08-09 class, its like 09-10 products, Griffin raised prices, Rose/Westbrook/Love etc are doing the same to 08-09 stuff. Low demand = higher supply = lower prices. High demand = lower supply = higher prices. Simple case of supply & demand in this case..Happens in every sport and every product, the more customers want the product, the higher prices go. The less customers want the product, the lower the price. 2010 Baseball is a key example of this. When Strasburg got hurt, prices crashed on Topps Chrome & Bowman Chrome overnight, because people didnt want to pay the highprices with Strasburg's value tanking.

For Panini Basketball products, for 2010-11. I think the prices are to high in general, and that comes back to quality. Most Panini products don't have any or little bang for the buck. Nobody wants to drop $75-$100 on a box with 2 GUs/Patches and 2 Autos per box (on average of course) when the only chance you have of having a successful break is to pull a Kobe, sick 1/1 (or extrememly low numbered card) or Wall. Even now, Wall's prices have dropped big time from where they started. Its a waste of money really. Its not about being in it for the money, I collect as a hobby, but i'm not spending $100 if my odds of making the $100 back are slim to none.

Yea I might pick up some lineage as I stated before he already pulled the big hit outta donruss a kobe craftsman gu/auto /25. I am just disappointed in the hobby is all. Theres NO way you are gonna get close to your money back on the topps hardwood at that price. I feel like that about alot of products. I like to collect with my son it is fun but if boxes keep getting this expensive we might have to find a new hobby to enjoy. Who can afford boxes at these insane prices.
