I didn't say he couldn't or shouldn't have an opinion. What I said was that when he or anyone else express that opinion, one should expect to be challenged.

Why should I provide evidence to contradict Mendenhall's opinion, he provided none to support it. I've called nobody names and haven't said he or anyone else shouldn't express their opinion. Besides, if we share the same opinion, I don't have the time to present all the evidence to the contrary.

Mendenhall faces scrutiny because he's in the public eye. He also is a memeber of a team and league, and therefore a representative of both. The Steelers have already expressed their disagreement with his opinion, and if the league hasn't, I'm sure they will.

Mendenhall brought the scrutiny upon himself, what did he think would happen if he said that? I guess he didn't learn from his slavery comments either, which is a shame.

No apology necessary, just having a civil discussion.

I do agree with this. He should be able to back up what he believes with evidence, as we all should. But I don't think he's in the wrong at all. If he went to Twitter and called Mike Tomlin a jerk and was running his mouth about the Rooney family, then yeah, that's a problem. They're his employers. But I just don't see what's wrong with him saying something that has nothing to do with his team or his sport.

And frankly, if people look to athletes for political enlightenment, that's a far bigger problem.

I think that Mendenhall is very wrong for saying what he has. He is directly affecting a brand (His Team, The NFL, Etc.). Just look at some of the past posts. People are already expressing their displeasure in what he said and what they hope the team or league would do to him.

And as for what you stated, "if people look to athletes for political enlightenment, that's a far bigger problem", people/kids do look to him for his opinion in all matters and take his side. So therefore I think we already do have that bigger problem that you where talking about. For every action there is a reaction, and he will most likely see that reaction and still not care what people think about him. Therefore he will continue to make the ignorant statements that we have become accustomed to him making.

ask yourself if you have ever seen these pictures before. I can promise that you will never see them from any 9-11 truther.

here is the only photo they will ever show you

Now. its very simple. After 6 hours of completely uncontrolled fire engulfed the entire building.......how could every last charge remain connected and intact without detonating until someone decided to detonate it? The only argument with building 7 is that it looked like a controlled demolition. I dont know about you, but I had never seen or heard of an uncontrolled demolition/collapse. It turns out that crazy jihadist dont fly planes into buildings on a regular basis, so they dont happen that often. who would have known that they look just like the controlled ones. Gravity, who knew?

he said what alot of people would be afraid to say in public. I see nothing wrong with what he said. there are alot of people who would agree with him. do some research and you will see there are alot of things around 911 that are strange, odd, unusual, etc. its not as cut and dry as the us government wants you to beleive.

I've seen those pictures, and a lot more. I took a Counterterrorism class in college, and did a project on 9/11 that required me to read the NIST report, which was full of those types of pictures. By the way, it was a painstaking 700+ pages to go through, there's a lot of boring stuff in there.

If you look in the NIST report, they have a comparison between the WTC 7 fire and a few other famous fires (only one I can think of offhand is One Meridian Plaza). Even in that comparison, they seem to cast a bit of doubt as to why the other fires were worse, yet WTC 7 collapsed when none of the others did. NIST says that the core columns and girders in the south side of the building suffered no damage from WTC 1's collapse, which of course was the main cause of the structural fires.

In the FEMA report, they even say that their best theory (which was that structural fires caused the collapse of the inner columns of the east penthouse of the building) had a low probability of actually happening.

One of the main motifs of the NIST report is pretty important, I think. Throughout the whole report, they talk about (and have many pictures) of the bottom floors. Given the smoke, dust and debris that surrounded WTC 7, it's hard to know EXACTLY how bad the fires were in the bottom floors.

Also, they bring up the point of the lack of firepower (no pun intended) to stop the fires in WTC 7. The FDNY was maxed out at that point.

Even with that said, I still have to make a big mental stretch to believe that WTC collapsed due to these fires alone. I'm not saying it's a conspiracy. I'm just saying that I wasn't satisfied with what I read from NIST and FEMA.

Edit: By the way, fires didn't "engulf the entire building". Here's a link to Part 1 of the NIST report if you wanted to read it. the rest is at their website.

Yeah guys I would like to keep this thread up, because what Mendenhall said is newsworthy but let's try to shift the focus back to the comments and away from the conspiracy theories. Thanks!

I love how some people just love to excercise their little power all the time! It is a healthy discussion and if someone does not want to read it, then they wont click that little link, right? I cant wait until the Steelers play the Ravens and just like his rookie year RM will get to meet Mr. RL, and hopefully true destruction will take place again. He is a complete moron and just signed his own blackball certificate in the NFL. What a genius. For anyone to believe this country would sacrifice innocent citizens just to have a reason to take out a international problem, is sick! The govt does some shady stuff, but that is just too big and too wrong. And could never be covered up! I hope all of his cards, jerseys and memorabilia sit and never sell. He can say whatever he wants but I hope his FREE education at Illinois taught him that eventually you are just like every man walking down the street, held accountable!! Call Jose Canseco and see if he needs a roommate...

nope. not a significant amount. Just a significant amount of focus on those few who have become victims of "the movement". Your stance only contributes to the problem and it is what I have heard a thousand times from the left. The truthers and the left are both rabid Bush haters. Instead of calling people out on thier stupidity, they just say Bush is too stupid to pull it off. They unite in thier rabid hatred of Bush and leave it at that. I dont know what you consider legit, but I have never heard them come up with anything rational. If they did it would just be drowned out by idiots screaming about super thermite and building 7.

Congratulations, what you said is just as stupid, just as paranoid, and just as illogical as what the 9/11 truthers and Mendenhall say. Do you still believe that the Communists are out to get you?

The fact is that there are as many people on the right who make stupid comments about 9/11 as those on the left. However, I suspect that because you consider yourself as a right-winger, you ignore these and only focus on the left. At the end of the day neither the left or the right have a monopoly on saying and doing stupid things. By only singling out the left you are showing yourself to be just as big a conspiracy theorist as the 9/11 truthers.

But guess what, you have the right to say it, just like Mendenhall - but when you do say something stupid, expect to be criticised for it, just like Mendenhall.

Do I agree with what Mendenhall said? Not at all. However, that isn't to say that he shouldn't say it, nor that there isn't the possibility that something may be wrong with the official line. I know a number of civil engineers, some who are engaged in the construction of large office buildings. Some say that a plane could have caused the twin toers to collapse based on their professional experience, others have doubts based on their professional experience. Personally I believe it was the planes crashing into the twin towers that caused them to crash. That being said, if someone were to present evidence to the contrary I would listen to it.

As for the truthers and the left being rabid Bush haters, here is a news flash for you - most people in the world who know of George Bush and what he has done hate him - and that includes conservatives. All of my conservative friends in Australia and Europe hate the guy, largely based on the Iraq invasion and the lies he told around it. You don't need to be a 9/11 truther or on the left to hate George Bush.

In summation, I suggest that if you are going to attack Rashard Mendenhll for his stupid comments and 9/11 turther for their irrationality, and bigotry, don't make stupid comments that display your irrationality and bigotry. There are planty of nutcases on both the left and right.
