I really do not know what makes us want to dive into the base cards or inserts. I do understand the value of Autographs and Jerseys/Relics. Buying a card containing a piece of a Jersey or Ball or Bat or anything really of player that used it or wore it is like touching a piece of history. It basically being on the field when you are not there.Thats what really makes me want to dive and get those cards. Also especially with On Card Autos, those just speak to me saying "Wow, I was touched by a professional athlete (Whoever signed the card)". To me that is what makes those "Hits" valuable. For the Base/Inserts/Rookies, it is just seeing them grow into a more mature player over the time, and seeing a Veteran superstar when he was only 18 years old just says the "WOW" factor to it.

The money value on the cards just speak to the demands of it, I see a lot of people have the same idea as I do and with more wants then haves, the value just sky rockets.

You obviously haven't seen "Are We There Yet"? He got a tire for his Navigator with a Yao Ming RC

I think a lot has to do with perception. Perception of value, perception of rarity, perception of future value. If you can manipulate any of those, wallets magically open up

Although cards are not an accepted currency around the world they have been very popular for over 100 years and especially since the 30s with goudeys, then leaf, bowman, topps ect. If you buy a card of Mickey Mantle you can say you own a piece of history, you own a piece of baseball fame. And the same with the autos and gu they bring you closer to the game. In my opinion collecting cards or sports memorablia is just another way to connect to a sport that you love. I love baseball basketball and football. I collect all three of those sports, when I see Peyton Manning throw a TD I can say I have his autograph to myself and it brings a smile to my face nowing that unlike the typical everyday guy I am interacting with the game on a more personal note. When I get new cards or memorablia in my collection I look back on that player or players and just think of all of the legends, the games, the history behind it and it really makes me just love this hobby. I dont do it to make money, I do it to make me happy which it does. Its the little things in life man, cards dont make the world go round and I could most definetly live without them however they bring a sense of enjoyment to me and many other collectors. I can also honestly say that I cannot watch a game of baseball basketball or football without thinking of what i have of those players that I see making the clutch plays and it really is neat to own some of that.
Just my opinion but to me its a great hobby and one that I plan on being apart of forever.

I do it because I enjoy the thrill of the chase and I think that is what drives alot of other people to. I hope one day I will own all cards of my PC player. Until I reach my goal I will continue to check ebay and all forum sites daily.
