Box Buying Question
It seems all the Hobby boxes have went by at least 15 or 20 dollars. Why is that? Is because the season is still going? I also wanted to buy a box. Would it be smart to wait or will the prices stay like that?

I'm not sure what you mean. Did you mean that hobby boxes are selling for 15-20 dollars more than what they normally go for? If that's what you mean, then it all depends on the draft that year. If the players that came out of that year were really good like in 96, 98, 03, 08 then those boxes would be more expensive. Newer boxes like 09 and even 10 are all influenced by Blake Griffin and John Wall. Those boxes will rise and fall depending on how those players play. Then you have to look at how available hobby boxes are. Since Panini took over exclusively in 2010, 2009 boxes and older of Upper Deck and Topps and even Fleer have increased a little.
Looking forward, this years upcoming draft is looking really weak...even weaker that this years draft. No matter what scouting reports or insiders say, Kyrie Irving is not John Wall, let alone a top flight PG. So I wouldn't get too infatuated with getting next years products. I might just get one or two boxes and that's it and just build my rookie collection via singles.

Yea thats what I was talking about. Like upper deck went from 40 to 70. Like a couple months back the boxes were way cheaper. The question I was asking is should I wait a little while before buying a box hoping the price will go down or what?

It really helps to know what year the hobby box you're looking to buy.

with 2008/09, you're looking at Derrick Rose as being the reason why those boxes skyrocketed. You look at the prices for Rose RC's or auto's and you'll understand why.
For 2009, Blake Griffin is the reason there.
So it all depends on how you feel both players careers will play out. If you feel that Rose will continue to get better and win more MVP's or win a ring (hopefully more), then you may feel like buy now. Same thing goes for Blake Griffin. If you think Blake Griffin can continue playing like crazy and a young shawn kemp, then buy now. But if you think he's more injury prone or will get seriously injured because of the style of play he plays, I would hold.
It all depends on how long you can hold off buying boxes. Every year that passes, a new rookie crop comes in and theres a buzz for them and there's less interest in previous rookies. Obviously there's exceptions, like for the 03 draft class since there's Lebron, Wade and Melo. Those boxes will always be expensive. On the flip side, the hobby boxes of UD for 2006 are really inexpensive. The reason for that is because the draft class then sucked as Rondo was the only player that has really come into his own.
It's all how you feel those rookies will do. Do you think that the 08-09 draft class is one of the best? If not, then wait. If yes, then the prices will remain high.

08-09 was the best draft class since 03-04. Not just Rose, but Beasley, Mayo, Love, Bayless, Westbrook and a few others. But I am guessing that prices in general will come down IF there is a sustained lockout. But that's just a guess and the lockout may never happen or it may be over quickly. 2011-12 is looking like a dismal year for basketball cards in general. The looming lockout plus many of the best college players elected to spend another year in school rather then draft because of the potential lockout, so the draft is the weakest we have seen in awhile. But the 12-13 draft should be epic!

Yea. I was looking through prices and it seemed EVERY years prices went up. Any way what would be the best choice for a box around 70 or so?
