    Why buy boxes?

I cannot see the value in it aside from the thrill of opening packs. And of course that one in 1000 of pulling a card that actually sells on ebay for $300 or more - still the economics arent there compared to what you can buy with the same amt of $

Thats like asking why do people gamble? Its the thrill of the chase, hoping to get that one nice card that makes it all worth it. Sure you wont make your money back all the time, but its still fun every once and a while.

    Many reasons:
-It's a fun family activity once in a while

-You might get a big hit

-You avoid e-bay scammers if you buy a box from a reputable LCS

-You are looking for a PC card that has a high chance of being in or will be
guaranteed in the box along with other cards

    -You are building a set

-There is always good trade bait out of a box. Someone always wants something from a break

-Buying single cards is not fun. Sure, I paid $308 for an Irbe 1/1 because I needed it, but if it hadn't of been listed up on e-Bay, I probably would have bought a box or two from Wayne's and still have had money left to spare for other fun things.

-During Young Guns season (UD Series 1 especially), it is highly likely that boxes will yield several high value rookies that would be cheaper to chance at with a hobby box than paying $80 for a single one online.

This is all I could think of right now. I'm sure there are more because busting boxes is really fun.

If people didn't buy boxes there would be no singles to buy. It's a give and take relationship that keeps the hobby going.

There will always be an argument for both sides. Box breakers enjoy the thrill of the chase, and they are the ones who pull the great cards.

I personally find boxes (even packs!) too expensive and therefore just buy singles. Both are reasonable ways to go.

Very much agree; breaking boxes is the starting point for all cards. I always wonder how many great hits and 1/1's are still unopened boxes of my favorite sets.

In my opinion, breaking boxes is like hobby archeology, and for the collective good, everyone needs to take turns digging.
