Spring Training Ideas?
Hey everyone, well Spring Training is just around the corner, and I was curious to see who everyone is thinking about sending out to! I'd like to send to 10-15 guys, but I'm not really sure who is worth a shot. Thanks everyone and good luck to you all this spring!

I'm gonna send to alot of Sox and Cubs, and some personal favorites like Johnny Damon and Aaron Rowand. Also some longshots like Big Mac and Ryan Braun (lol). Should be fun. I wouldn't fret tho man. You have the same shot if not better (then reg. season) of getting players to sign. So why not try.

I'm keeping it small with guys who have been decent...last year I sent out about twenty five and got three back. My list as of right now:
Drew Storen
Jason Kipnis
Koji Uehara
Dustin Ackley
Mark McGwire
Drew Stubbs
Mariano Rivera
With probably more to come...Last edited by lambeauleap87; 02-04-2012 at 05:23 PM.

My ST numbers are awful, I can't seem to get guys that EVERYONE else gets. Tried Vlad four times last spring and didn't get one back when guys on here got three back from him. I did get Big Mac though so that made it all worth it.
I'll try a few Cubs this year (I only got Thomas Diamond and Quade back last year.. Cubs were god awful ST signers last year). Going to waste some stamps on Rivera one last time.. I dunno, maybe a couple others. That's really creeping up on us, better start making a list. Gonna try a couple 8x10s I think. Maybe Cuddyer and Ackley.

Anyone want to bet on how many fake Bryce Harper returns we'll see this year?

I have a really small list of mostly younger players:
- Drew Pomeranz
- Michael Taylor
- Stephen Strasburg
- Michael Pineda
- Doug Fister
- Craig Kimbrel
- Nick Hagadone
- Brent Lillibridge
- Aaron Crow
- Alex Liddi
- Dustin Ackley
- Jason Kipnis
- Melky Cabrera
I'm trying to limit myself. I might try one or two longshots but these are about it for me.

I am still unsure what my focus will be this ST. I have had great results in the past doing different things. Guys who are non roster invites have been great for me in the past as it is a great way to get guys who were big, but coming off a rough year or near the end for them. Prospects and young players usually do well for me. Small markets are always the best. Pittsburg, KC, Arizona, Colorado and other small markets seem to sign better than NY teams for instance. Coaches are fun to run down. Do not focus on just the managers when doing them as many former big leagers are base coaches, hitting coaches and pitching coaches. There are so many to chose from and I am going to limit to 100 for my initial mailing. I am hoping for 50 back as I tend to take a few bigger risks on my initial mailing and do a smaller one in March as I see who is signing that I missed. I literally took a vacation starting on the 11th just to spend two days doing letters. I can not wait for this to start up!

Last year I sent out 50 and I have 27 back, so that was pretty positive, but I really cheated and went with all automatic signers.
This year I'm going to send to lesser well-known guys with no past experience of signing, just to try someone new. I'll probably send out 10 at a time over the course of 4 weeks.

Can't wait! Should be a lot of fun, did pretty well last season, at least 75%.

This is going to be the first year sending out some TTMs for Spring Training. I am going to send to some lesser Dodgers and some ex-Dodgers that are coaching somewhere in the big leagues.
