Myth: Bush only gave tax cuts for the rich

I have to hear Obama on TV lie almost daily. He states over and over that the Bush tax cuts need to be repealed because they only gave tax cuts to the rich. Well, instead of using Obama Science, let's use something called facts.

The top 5 percent of all payers do pay more than half the income tax. They pay about 59.2 percent of all individual income tax, according to an analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan institute run jointly by the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution.

Thompson also said that 40 percent of Americans pay no income tax. This claim is supported by the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research group that promotes transparency in the tax code and economic growth.

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/228/

So, even with the tax cuts, the top 5% pay 59.2% of ALL THE INCOME TAXES and 40% don't pay taxes at all.

In the 8 years under Bill Clinton, he increased the number of people that do NOT pay tax from 23% to 25%. Under the Bush Administrations 8 years that number went from 25% to 40%.

So, who cut taxes for the the poorest in America? This myth that Democrats help the poor and Republicans only help the rich is a LIE and I get sick every time I see Obama look into the camera and lie. He knows these numbers and still repeat the lie over and over so everyone thinks it is a fact. This chart shows you up until 2004.

And in 2008 it is now at 40% as the link above shows.

So, now you know the facts and that Obama is lying to you. Also, he is not giving a tax cut to 95% of all Americans because 40% don't even pay tax! He is going to give them a check for simply breathing and take it from the 5% that are already paying 59% of the tax.

Any Democrats care to dispute these numbers, give it a try. First sit down, because realizing you have been lied to can make you feel sick. :)

I can only guess after 49 views and no response we can agree that Obama is a liar when it comes to this. Hopefully, people that have read this see that it is President Bush that has cut taxes for the poor and not Bill Clinton.

82 views and nothing!! Where are all the Obama and Clinton supporters now?

I know when you have a paradigm shift it can be upsetting. Realizing that President Bush has done more for poor people in America than Bill Clinton can come to a shock since you have been lied to by the media and Obama for so long.

    Sometimes the truth hurts.

It's pretty obvious to anyone who opens their eyes and looks. Democrats want to start more government programs and increase existing ones. Where does the money to do that come from? Taxpayers. In order to do the things they want to do in government (ie increase it), more money is needed and, therefore, taxes are raised.

Aside from the fact that I don't think only raising taxes on the rich will actually happen, why do people think that's ok? Why should successful people who already pay much more than their share of taxes have to pay more? Basically, the rich citizens are paying for the poor citizens...which is redistribution of wealth...which is Socialism. But because of the complete lack of personal responsibility in this country, people feel that they somehow deserve that? Absolutely blows my mind...

How do you know they haven't? Would we be MUCH worse without them? JFK and Truman Democrats understood that tax cuts were better than tax increases. The reason the economy sucks right now is because Democrats have made it so any person can own a home regardless if you can afford it. Now we have a $1 trillion mess to deal with because people who should never have owned a home bought one. Now the tax payers have to bail them all out again.

It also appears that you have conceded that Bush is better for the poor than Clinton ever was.

mike - no offense intended but I think many people don't respond to your posts or threads because you talk in circles sometimes.

In Post #8 in this thread you say "The reason the US economy sucks right now is because Democrats have made it so any person can own a home regardless of if they can afford it"

but in a recent thread a few days ago ... you state ...

I think the US economy is doing just fine.

so which is it? Is the economy doing fine or does it suck because of the Dem's? and can you explain exactly how it's the Democrats fault that the banks were handing out loans to any tom, dick and harry to buy a house even if they couldn't afford it?

The other question I have based on this thread is out of the 40% of people who do not pay taxes ... how many of them are Stay at home mothers/fathers, full time students, veterans of war etc. that do not have an income and therefore would not be subject to paying an income tax and are you saying that it is unfair for these type of people to not get a little kick back from the goverment for as you put "simply breathing"??

I agree Bush cut taxes for people, sure he gave us "economic stimulus" checks a few times if I remember correctly but on the opposite end of that I'm sure we can all agree that he has done more wrong for this country than right for this country and if you don't agree I would have to say you are blinded by the light my man.

I tend to stay quiet on political/religious subjects but IMO believe your views may be a bit skewed towards the "tight" side of things.

Only one more thing ... if you can deal with 4-8 more years of the same old stuff, then so be it. But I can't and again in my opinion, Obama is the lesser of two evils right now and maybe, just maybe he may provide some new life to this country that is currently hitting rock bottom thanks no less to GWB and his greed.
