I don't think it's going to be broken, a player has to play around 18-24 years and put up big numbers every single year. Lebron has 13,000 in 6 years and if he averages that in the next 12 years he'll break it, but i don't see him being that effective in his late 30s. Plus kids are losing a year because they have to wait one year after high school

i have to agree with JesRey, even the biggest ball hogger will not even beat that record it would need to be an average of nearly 48ppg for nearly 10 years straight to get to 39,360 points and i dont see that happening.
Collecting All Current Las Vegas Raiders, Carmelo Anthony, Ken Griffey Jr, Bo Jackson, Frank Thomas.
plus many more, Also any Legend or HOF raider players as well.
Just getting back into the Hobby so not much tradebait but have some stuff just let me know what your looking for and i will see what i have, No trade List Available yet but i am working on one.

Split the PPG in half (24) and double the years (20)...seems more doable now, doesn't it?

true, but how many players actually play 20 yrs of bball?? not a whole lot and i dont remember even 1 playing that long, it seems as if the average is between 10-15 yrs and on occasion you get some that play for nearly 17yrs which there are a few but not many.

Kareem played 19 years...Moses Malone played 21 or 22 years...Karl Malone played 20, and John Stockton played 19 (I think)...but, even take it at 17 years - that's still an average of 27 PPG...alot of points, yes, but there are players who can attain that, IMO...if Jordan hadn't retired twice, he would've most likely surpassed Kareem's all-time mark, and may've surpassed 40,000 points...not trying to change your minds, just stating the facts, or my opinions ;-)

Time to give my opinion! :-)
I'm going to say yes, and I believe Lebron James will be the player to do this. He hasn't even hit his prime yet, and he's already averaging nearly 30 PPG each season...so, he really just needs to average 25 PPG for the next 12 years to surpass Kareem's total. Is this tough to attain, sure, but I think it will happen...plus, if he is close to the record, he will probably keep playing until he breaks it.
