Over the Border Shipping Question!!! Post your Opinion

So my question is how do you guys ship cards?? Obviously in a bubble enevelope but i mean when you are shipping from Canada to US or vice versa do you always have to state the value/ whats in the package??

Why I ask is today when i was at the PO the person asked "whats in the enevelope, just paper?" I told her that there is sports cards in thin plastic holders....She told me that it counts as paper because there is no "metal" or harmful substance...So i didnt have to fill out a Customs Form declaring the value. Is weird sometimes i get asked to fill out a customs card and sometimes i dont...

I was jus wondering if this has happened to any of you?? Also do you guys put the BV of the card(s) as the declared value and how does that affect anything?? Thanks in advance

HuH . My post office makes me fill out a customs form every time and if I'm shipping expresspost I have to ship as a parcel because she said I can't ship plastic in an envelope.

I have to fill out customs forms if shipping anywhere out of the US unless it is to a military box. Also i have been burned numerous times as there is no delivery confirmation so i have since stopped shipping outside of the US.

There probably is a right and wrong answer to this question, but no one working at the post office seems to know. Depending on which post office I go to I get a different story. I just always end up putting a customs form when I send international mail so I don't have to worry about being turned away at the post office counter.

I have two different post offices I go to (depending on what else I'm out doing that day). Using a regular size bubble mailer (the kind it costs me $1.22 to send within Canada now, postage went up today!) I've never had to fill out a customs form when going to the USA.

Sounds like tax people. If you ask a question to 10 different IRS employees, you'll get 10 different answers. Must be a government thing. Wait till you see how bad they screw up healthcare!

I have dealt with a lot of cards going across the Canada - USA border. 80 % of the ones coming from the USA have a declaration form attached.
I always tell them at the post office what it is (hockey card) and do not have to fill out a declaration form.
The only time i declare when shipping to the USA is when i ship overnight via a service such as Purolator courier. Of all the cards i have shipped via overnight service none have been charged duty at the other end. (i think it is because the cards were made in the USA)
Our friends shipping from the USA to Canada should remember that if they declare a value say over about $60 we here in Canada get charged duty.
I have been charged duty even if the card was just a trade between me and someone in the USA (was i impressed NO) (do i think the Canadian government should get a slice of my trade or purchase from someone in the USA NOT A CHANCE)
    Cheers Joel

I have to fill out a customs form everytime. That's why I have a stack of them next to my computer by my bubble mailers so I don't have to sit there for 20 minutes filling out a bunch of customs forms. lol
