Halak Rumour Mill Continues...
Our two latest offerings:
1. Pierre Lebrun said during the Hotstove that Gainey has been talking to Dallas for the past couple of weeks about a goalie swap. Halak to Dallas in exchange for Marty Turco. I'd want Jamie Benn as part of the deal too.
2. Eklund (yeah, I know) has Halak possibly going to Atlanta as part of a package in exchange for a rental of Ilya Kovalchuk. I would suggest that this is Eklund trying to generate some more hits. It would sure be nice, though.
Thoughts? What else is out there?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

to be honest I cant see either of those trades happening I know Turco is on his way out but I cant see montreal wanting that to be the piece that comes back. And as for the Eklund rumor lol all i can is...it would be nice.

If Halak goes to Dallas they will not give up Jamie Benn or James Neal in return. Halak is good, but not a proven starter YET. I would not want Turco in return either. You've got Price who needs the experience to grow. Detroit on the other hand could use Turco.....Halak.....Toskala......Biron.....Roloson .....there's too many goaltenders to mention.....Halak going to Atlanta is another one that mystifies me unless Atlanta is giving up on Pavjelec. They do not have a team to compete this year so draft a goalie and groom them. If you're going to lose your superstar, and your team, you want proven talent, prospects and draft picks...Montreal does not have that to give up. If Montreal is in the mix it'll be part of a 3 way deal sending Lecavalier to Montreal and moving Halak.

I think your assessment of the Atlanta trade is bang on. Here's how these rumors get started:
1 - Pick a team with lots of fans that will search for rumors
2 - Pick a big name star, known to be in trade rumors already
3 - Post it. Get hits, and watch your add revenue increase.

I wouldn't deal Halak to Dallas without getting back at least Jamie Benn, and I'd probably insist on James Neal. If I were to bet, I would guess Halak goes to Philadelphia for Jeff Carter and a 2nd round pick.

HALAK should be Montreals #1...he was great in 2006 and wouldve grown from then on....
WHY is PRICE still considered a good goalie...for NHL standards, he is sub-par.....
both their records show HALAK as far superior, and the guy rides pine most of the time...
i dont understand why PRICE is treated like royalty, even his cards for god sakes are unbeliveably high for a true loser.

If Eklund says something, its safe to assume it will never happen. I believe Halak is ready for a starting role. I see absolutely no reason Atlanta would want him when they have Lehtonen (hurt but still), Pavelec, and Hedberg. I think Pavelec is better than Halak so no reason for him to go to ATL. I do see Dallas as a viable option because Turco is garbage now but without looking I can tell you that MTL would have to dump off cap space to take on Turco. I believe that the Habs will only trade him to a western team and one that needs a starter. I think Edmonton is the best fit.

some habs fans are seriously overrating halak. he's a good young goalie but carter + a 2nd? carter scored 40+ recently - he's worth a lot more than halak. halak hasn't proven he can be a #1 - he's talented but you need more than talent when trading a 40+ goal guy.
ATL is a possibility but it doesn't make sense for MTL to rent Kovalchuk. DAL would make sense but not sure they would trade Benn + Turco although that makes more sense than Carter + 2nd. i can't imagine they would move neal.
i think turco is more likely to land somewhere that needs a veteran backup for the playoffs. LA maybe, maybe Philly.
another goalie that could be moving is Dan Ellis as both he and Rinne are free agents at the end of the year and they won't keep both. maybe turco to Nashville for Ellis?
but i could see Turco for Halak with something coming with Turco since he'll be UFA. the ATL trade makes less sense, especially for MTL.
EDM could make sense but they're already committed to Khabibulin for 2 more years so I'm not sure they would spend that much at the goalie position.
