He didnt leave his feet to hit him, he tried to pin himself against the boards to get around him or soften the blow. Price leaned into him.
"I think he was trying to challenge me and I couldn't stop laughing," said Janssen, who has no points and 104 penalty minutes in 30 games this season. "Whatever, if he wants to challenge me then we'll see what happens the next game we play but big (Montreal enforcer) Georges (Laraque) might be in the lineup for that one. Maybe I'll try to get a goal off him instead."Last edited by theusedinstl; 01-21-2010 at 01:53 PM.

I don't blame him for responding...but you know as well as I do that most of the time when a goaltender tends to go outside his crease to play the puck he'll get hit.. A Habs player would have done the same thing.

It happened on the side of the net, where returning to his net from simply stopping the puck behind the net. He wasn't doing anything like Price.

Well, Laraque won't be in the lineup, that's for sure.

So you're seriously saying that the players should have a right to a breakaway and the goalies shouldn't be allowed to try and play the puck to prevent it?? I seriously cant believe you feel that way...why not just force goalies to stay in their crease? Why not call a penalty on a goalie every time he plays the puck with his stick? That is esentially what you are saying and i still can't believe it...
As for this situation, as a goalie myself I don't feel like it should be a penalty. Price knew the risk of going for the puck in that situation and he still went for it. While I don't think that goalies should be "fair game" when they play the puck, I think that if it is a simple foot race, like this situation, and they both collide, then nothing should be called. But if the player is clearly going to lose the battle and still hits the goalie or tries to play the body on the goalie and not the puck, that should be a penalty. Same for a goalie. If he tries to cut the player off and not let him get the puck AND he himself doesn't go for the puck, it should be a penalty on the goalie.
Finally, a little side note. The trapezoid rule is the absolutely DUMBEST rule ever. I hate that rule soooooooooooooo much...

Price knew the risks of going out of his net...He had to do it in order to avoid the possible breakaway...but by doing so he exposed himself...bottom line is, if a goalie wants to play the puck then they should be ready for a chance to get nailed...We've seen it many times before and you can bet we'll see it happen again.

Carey knew exactly what he was doing. The team was playing poorly up until that point, and Carey went after that puck and whoever was going near it. You had to watch the game to understand the situation. It was awesome, and the fans were chanting CAREY CAREY CAREY after that.
Just another reason I like Price over Halak.

The fans didn't chant for long...it was a lousy game. Time for some major cleanup...Laraque is a good start.. He didn't fit in the team since day 1. I wonder what do the Molson brothers think about Gainey's performance as a GM.

Price has no reason to be angry about that. He basically skated in front of a full-speed Janssen. What did he expect? That would be like jumping in front of a car and getting angry at the driver. You can see as well that Janssen tried to avoid hitting him by squeezing between Price and the boards.
Goalies tend to have the thought in their head that they're untouchable.
