Paypal echecks...
Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they ALWAYS clear when put into a paypal account? I recently had a buyer send an echeck, which paypal held for 2 weeks. Paypal "recommends" holding off shipment until payment is cleared, which i did. Now i'm stuck in a dispute because i waited until payment cleared to send, and now the buyer claims its been a month and no card. Well its been a month since payment was SENT and less than 2 weeks since payment CLEARED. Has anyone had an echeck that hasnt cleared? Is this a trick some buyers use to scam? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I have gotten a few of them through Paypal and I have always waited for it to clear. I have never had someone submit a claim against me so I guess that I am lucky.

It was probaly someone who has never sent an echeck and didn't realize it took so long to clear? If you are shipping to Canada the buyer should know that it can take up to 4 weeks or longer to get his/her card.

Yea, e-checks usually clear in about 7 days, sometimes a bit longer. I would note to paypal that it is there policy that you wait until an e-check clears before an item is sent. That hopefully should buy some time before the item has to get there.

I have only received one once and it took about 8 days. After the first 7 I contacted the buyer and told them what was up. She said it was crazy because paypal took the money out of her account after 3 days but took 8 days to give it to me.

I bet it came from Canada didn't it? I can't stand e-checks either. I have only had two instance where I waited all that time for them to clear and they didn't have the funds but the buyer's weren't jerks about it like yours seems to be.
If he doesn't understand that he sent and e-check and it took 2 weeks to clear maybe you should message him that that is the reason it took long and paypal says not to ship until the payment clears.
I put in BIG BOLD letters and italics with a different color on ebay in TWO places on my auctions that I do not accept e-checks and still get some dummy that pays that way once a week. They are useless!!

I told ebay during a dispute over an e-check that I list my auctions with a statement that I don't accept e-checks in my terms of sale and it doesn't matter what you put they said. They sent the payment, you have to wait. Go figure

OK before I ask you what your point is about being from Canada. Lets talk about e-checks... They are guaranteed funds from a bank account regardless weather the buyer is from Canada or the USA etc. That means you will receive the funds. It comes out of their account in about 3 day and is usually paid to the seller in about 7 days... any further delay is a result of paypal, maybe wanting to make interest off it, who knows. But you will receive the funds. To those who say they dont accept them... only if you dont take paypal period. If you allow buyers to pay by paypal then e-check is part of that payment method. Some people may not like them but I for one don't mind them. I have sent them as well as received them at some point and have no problem with them. To the OP... Just e-mail buyer and explain to them the paypal procedure on e-checks and ask kindly for their patience.
