My point was to state that from different countries so don't get bent out of shape because I said Canada. That is where 60% of my ebay sales come from so that is the only reason I mentioned them as an example.

Also, if the person doesn't have the funds after the waiting period, juts like a regular bounced check, then the seller doesn't get paid. I have been through it twice so don't tell me that I didn't receive them only because I choose not to accept paypal.

Ive been through that with the buyer, they just insist on being a DB. I dont mind waiting for the payment, I just mind when 10 days after payment clears I get a claim put against me by an ignorant buyer. From now on im going to return echecks immediately to save the hassle. If for some reason a dispute arises and the mail takes until after the dispute period ends to show up, Im out of my cards, not going to happen. Ill takes this dispute as a lesson and hope the buyer is honest, even when they know the paypal rules and that theyve got you by the b**ls.

OK before I ask you what your point is about being from Canada. Lets talk about e-checks... They are guaranteed funds from a bank account regardless weather the buyer is from Canada or the USA etc. That means you will receive the funds. It comes out of their account in about 3 day and is usually paid to the seller in about 7 days... any further delay is a result of paypal, maybe wanting to make interest off it, who knows. But you will receive the funds. To those who say they dont accept them... only if you dont take paypal period. If you allow buyers to pay by paypal then e-check is part of that payment method. Some people may not like them but I for one don't mind them. I have sent them as well as received them at some point and have no problem with them. To the OP... Just e-mail buyer and explain to them the paypal procedure on e-checks and ask kindly for their patience.

Thanks for the pm and clearing that up with your response here. I was concerned as regardless of where a person is from, you will find two types be it buyer or seller. Ones that are excellent and others that are DB's. Sounds like the OP unfortunately got a DB.

On the bounced check, I'm just going by what paypal and my bank has told me. They are guaranteed funds. Meaning like a money order/bank draft, paid in advance. I'm sure things can happen to the other wise.

Let me tell you about a friend of mine who learned a tough lesson. They were new to e-bay and e-checks. Paid not knowing about the 3 day delay taking the money from their account. Paypal and the seller got the funds. But the buyers car insurance payment, that actually came out the day before paypal bounced. So seller received the funds and the buyer got a 25$ NSF on their account and the insurance company cancelled them as well. But they did get their cards.

Sorry to hear you got a DB buyer. Best thing to do is block them and move on. Dont let the bad ones ruin it for the good ones.

I pay with echecks through paypal as I don't have a credit card. I have never bounced one, nor have I ever had one take longer than 5-7 business days to clear (holidays definitely drag things out a bit though). I don't think you should be angry at the echeck method itself. Be mad at the buyer. If they had a credit card then they'd probably say the card never showed and still file a claim, the echeck is not the bad seed here, it's the dishonest buyer, echeck or not. Sending an echeck is the same as writting one, which is why the delay exists obviously. I notice though that the next day after I pay for an item with an echeck that the money is out. I have no idea why Paypal sits on it for 4-6 days after that. I always hated seeing a card I wanted and then seeing that they have a no-echeck policy. I understand the reasoning though so I don't need to rant about that. ;)
