I hate paypal!!!!
I just need to get this off of my chest, friends...I hate, loathe, despise, pick your adjective, PayPal. They are the WORST.
I cannot understand the no-negative-feedback policy on the 'Bay for buyers at all...but PayPal, with their "buyer protection program" as enforced by eBay is crazy. But we all knew that. Their fees are outrageous. We all knew that, too. I have already shut down one PayPal account due to a card that was claimed never received when I know it was and thought I proved it...but apparently not to their satisfaction and so out goes the money, and bye-bye goes the Sidney Crosby RC that was sent. That was years ago. But when I got back into the hobby, I had to bite the bullet and get a new PP account.
So to make a long story longer...I just spend 30 minutes on the phone yelling at some poor sap in the Phillipines over the way they handled a recent transaction of mine. I bought a card for $600 and paid through eBay but was $14 short in my PayPal account (didn't know that). But instead of taking my $586 and then taking the balance out of my account via eCheck (the legalities of which are highly dubious anyway), they processed the ENTIRE PAYMENT out as an eCheck. I freaked when I saw the confirmation of the eCheck payment - there was NO warning about this ahead of time. So I tried to cancel the payment immediately. Nope, can't. Had to get the vendor to do so. He graciously agreed to do so. The 'purchase' happened Saturday night and it was cancelled on Sunday morning. But guess what?
They still processed the payment!! I just had $663 taken out of my account, leaving me way tight for the weekend!! When I called to complain, they said they would process a refund right away as they could see the cancelled transaction. "Right away" means 7-10 DAYS. So I'm out a lot of cash for over a week. They refused to do anything about it. They said they could not change the payment once I sent it, which is nonsense. Pre-authorized debits can only be batch-processed on banking days. I know as my wife is in the business. So even with knowledge of the cancellation on Sunday, and even though they could have cancelled the PAD up until 2 p.m. Monday, they just didn't as a matter of policy. I said are you going to at least pay me interest for the week you've got my money? Joe, the rep, said no, it wasn't their fault and they don't have the money anyway. So, I know I don't have it, but they don't either...so it's just floating out there in cyberspace. I am furious.
I am resolved now to accept payment any way the buyer wishes. EBay cannot require me to use only their payment service, I know that much. So screw eBay, and screw PayPal in particular.
Anyone else have some bad experiences they want to relate to make me feel like everyone else hates them too? PayPal-------->

I love it when I sell something on ebay, get bent over with fees, then have to pay shipping out of my own pocket because paypal decides to hold my funds until buyer confirms delivery of item or leaves positive feedback. I know my ebay rating is only 37 with almost 50 total positives and no negatives, and only 18 detailed seller ratings, all of which are 5's, but come on, you won't even release the funds to print off a shipping label, I have to pay that out of my own pocket?

Its a shame that the only way now to make purchases on ebay is with paypal. But, go figure, ebay owns paypal, so it is just more money into there pocket. God forbid that there be some type of alternative payment.

There's a class-action lawsuit out there for someone willing to front it for eBay's monopolization of payment methods under the guise of "safety" for their buyers. It's nonsense. I thought that was what feedback was for. Now, buyers can't get negative feedback and they can lie about shipments with no repercussions.
As for PayPal, another thing - their US/Canadian exchange is totally out of whack. Just sayin'.

not saying that what happen was right, but if you read the small print when you signed up for Paypal, All of this is in there.
I personally like Paypal and ebay, not too crazy that the same company owns both, but it's better than setting up Sunday at the local flea market trying to get enough to pay table rent over 8 hrs...
All complain about the fees for ebay, but for most it is cheaper that having a store front or setting up at the local markets or card shows.
No one complains about the higher amounts ebay brings....
Just saying....

I'm not going to suggest what they do is right - but when we signed up for eBay and paypal we all agreed to those terms of usage (even if, like me, we didn't exactly read what we were agreeing to).
eBay is a corporation, that also owns paypal. Why shouldn't they be allowed to say that you must use their payment system as the only means to pay for items you're buying through their website?
There are other options out there. If we don't like the fees for eBay and paypal, use a different set of services.

Just to make a comment - what happened to me was WRONG, and I'll tell you why. PayPal has an obligation to tell you when they will auto-fund from your bank account, in my opinion. They should say "hey, your PayPal is short, wanna hold off?" but they don't. The rules of the Electronic Payments Association requires notice, which they don't give in an instance like mine. Meanwhile, my cash is gone for a week and they claim they can't do anything about it. That is just not right.

Don't get me wrong here..... I don't like it either. Stuff like this is exactly why I removed my bank account from paypal (only have a pre-paid credit card hooked up to it). I don't trust them not to screw up. If I were in your shoes, I'd be upset too.... and I'm not trying to suggest for a second that you shouldn't be.
I've never done the eCheck thing (I used my bank account to get verified, then removed it) so I'm not 100% sure how it works, but it must be different than with credit cards. If I've got $150 in my paypal account, and I try to pay for a $200 item...... it will use the $150 from my account, and then take the remaining $50 from my credit card. I'm surprised that's not how paying via eChecks would work.
As for their obligation though, I'm sure if you go back through the user agreements (again, the ones that I never read) you'll probably find that automatically going to the eCheck when the balance isn't big enough to cover the purchase, is what you, or I, or anyone who signs up agrees to do. When I'm pressing the 'Send Money' button, their system would be running under the assumption that you are aware of you balance, and that balance's size relative to your purchase. You wouldn't be clicking on the payment button unless you intended to pay by whatever means it will default to.
