Retail Sucks.Why do they suck?
Why do companies not put good stuff in their retail products. Is retail only intented for little kids who don't know or care so much the quality of cards or return on their investment they are getting. Target sells a high volume of cards but retail on the whole has much much less value then hobby. I mean it is the same price if you average everything out. So why then does retail for example only carry one mem or auto card per box on average as supposed to 4 hits on hobby. It does not make sense to me, I mean you are paying out the same money, shouldn't you expect the same pay out from them.

Hobby boxes are generally a little more expensive than retail. That is why you get more in them(have some cards(auto's or GU) that are not in retail packs and better odds of hitting the regular GU or auto's). Like anything in life, you get what you pay for.
Card companies do this to more easily market cards to major retailers (Walmart, etc..) while trying not to alienate the hobby shops. Its a fine balance though.Last edited by wrafman; 02-13-2010 at 11:31 AM.

Retail was good for me as I was getting back into collecting a little bit ago. I could sample new products and whatnot cheaper, and still have a shot at getting something nice (via blasters). I did pull a Kobe g/u gold parallel /10 out of a 08-09 Bowman DP&S blaster from Target, as well as a nice hockey insert auto from a Target blaster of 08-09 Fleer Ultra. So, the chances are there.

I agree that bball blasters are lacking, especially panini they are pathetic, but topps platinum and topps finest for fball are pretty solid this year

It's retail, what do you expect? You get what you pay for, if you want the big hits/investment opportunities, get the Hobby products.

The retail are for the little kids or for people who love base sets....
It's not suppose to haul big hits.

Retail is AWESOME for inserts and base of your favorite players...Which is really all kids care about. I love retail for the inserts that normally come.

It's all about the odds.
Retail has just as many hits as Hobby theyr're just spread out more.
I've had plenty luck with retail since 1997, except for Murad!

It's all about the odds - better odds to pull something amazing will cost you more. That's the difference in price. And, like MatthewLee said, the hits are basically the same in number - they just produce far more retail packs than hobby packs.

I do not like to buy either as never had any luck, but retail are garbage when it comes to box hits.
