Overrated players
In contrast to my last thread, which seemed to generate some interest, I thought I woud make a list of players who SCF members feel are overrated. By overrated I mean by fans or team management who has valued them at more than they are worth by overpaying them
Here are mine(off the top of my head):
Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis (Orlando Magic) - used to like him when he was with the Raps until the last season when he started sulking and dogging it. Very athletic player and exciting to watch but somewhat soft. Maybe this has to do with letting his mother being involved in his NBA career. Rashard Lewis is also grossly overpaid. He is a talented player and good scorer, but like Gordon does not pass or rebound very well.
Hedo Turkoglu (Toronto Raptors) - if the contract were less burdensome I would be glad that Hedo is in Toronto but $55 million dollars for 5 years for a player entering the downside of his career!?
Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva (Detroit Pistons) - esp. Gordon - the Bulls gave him a virtually identical contract to Turkoglu's (5 years, $55 million). He is a good scorer but that is way too much for an undersized 6th man who does not rebound or pass well. The Pistons gave Villanueva a huge contract too (almost as big as Gordon's) when he has done little to merit that kind of a contract.
Trevor Ariza (Houston Rockets) - went from being underrated to being overrated and overpaid bythe Rockets. Had a few big games in the playoffs but another guy who got a huge contract who does not really merit it.
Steven Jackson (Charlotte Bobcats) - Warriors gave him a huge questionable contract for a player of his age and stats, which he proceeded to disrespect and demand a trade. Fortunately they were able to unload it on the Bobcats.
The owners give the players these ridiculous contracts and then the NBA owners complain they are losing money after giving the players these kinds of contracts.
Who is on your list?

Vince Carter has been plagued with injuries the last few years and he's also not as young as he used to be but overrated he is not (my opinion ofcourse). Also, as far as him being soft? maybe you're thinking about someone else, because soft players don't go up and throw it down on 7 footers.

Good point - I remember that incredible dunk in the Olympics against the French 7 footer (Frederic Weis). He also had a very impressive one against Mourning in the playoffs when he was with the Nets.
My only point regarding Carter maybe being a little soft compared to some players (like Caron Butler - nickname - Tuff Juice - think the Lakers made a mistake in letting him go). He did have several relatively minor injuries (knee tendinitis) when he was with the Raptors. Many people felt he could and should have played some of those games. I think that was related to his frustrations with the Raptors and vice-versa.

T-Mac and Jermaine O'Neal still make $23,000,000 a year.

Don't know how I could have forgotten about them, especially T-Mac. Very early in the morning here.

agree with your thoughts on ariza, he wasnt very spectacular during the reg season last year, but after his above avg playoff performance, he wanted too much $$$, im glad we kept odom instead of him!

Villanueva's contract isn't close to Gordons, Villanueva has 5 years 40 million vs 5 years 55 million Gordon makes. Also Villanueva shouldnt be the '7th' man, when he was starting he was averaging 16-18 points per game, he's terrible off the bench though

Gordon as a Bull was not overrated IMO and neither is Ariza as a Rocket.
