Another member reminded me of one of the reasons I like the NBA and collecting - nostalgia and nicknames

Here are some of my favourites:

Dennis Rodman - 'The Worm' (I guess for his physique and elusiveness)
David Robinson - 'The Admiral' (was in the navy before joining the NBA)
Michael Jordan - 'Air' Jordan (no explanation necessary)
Dominique Wilkens - 'The Human Highlight Film' (same as above)
Shawn Kemp - 'Rain Man' (in his early years with the Sonics when he dunked he jumped so high and came down - it was like rain. Later he became overweight and distracted by his 13 illegitimate children)

'Rain Man' was also the name of a good movie with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman(plays an autistic man who his brother calls Rain Man)

    What are yours?

I thought it was "Reign Man"

and I liked Robert "Tractor" Traylor

Mathew Lee - 'plastic man' -that is a great nickname (Stacey Augmon). He was called that because of his long lean build and ability to extend his body.

I like 'The Truth' too. As a young player Pierce had a big game against Shaq. Shaq said 'Paul Pierce is the m.....r-f.....n truth'

I like 'The Truth' too. As a young player Pierce had a big game against Shaq where he scored 40 plus points. After the game Shaq said to a reporter, 'Paul Pierce is the m.....r-f.....n truth'!

(sorry - double post by accident)

Another good one - wonder what he did after he left the NBA (was with the Vancouver Grizzlies in the 90's). How could I forget about 'Mighty Mouse'? It was a very appropriate nickname for his first couple years with in the league with the Raptors. He went downhill after that. 'Tractor Traylor' is another good one from the late 90's - because of his build and running/playing style.

tarheelsnipe - a local nickname for T-Mac when he was leaving the Raptors was T-jerk.

I like Shaq and Zo but to me those are not true nicknames - just shortened versions of their name.
I just thought of one more:

Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon - not sure why he was called this - know he had a good spin move called the dreamshake (gave D. Robinson nightmares with it).

Charles Barkley - "Round Mound of Rebound"
    Karl Malone - "The Mailman"
Bryant Reeves -"Big Country" There was a cool story 6 months ago about him playing in pinball tournaments.
