    Only in California!!!

    http://cbs13.com/local/tracy.911.calls.2.1502690.html

Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency.

But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary. Or, there's the option of not signing up for the annual fee. Instead, they will be charged $300 if they make a call for help.

What are they trying to do out there in Cali? Make more people leave that god forsaken place?

    This is strange.

So if I see a school bus full of children hanging off a cliff, I might just have to pass on making a 911 call, it's too expensive...

This makes no sense. It will never work. Most 911 calls or on other people's behalf. If I call 911 for someone else when I witness an accident or something, Im not paying. If someone calls 911 for me because I got in a wreck, Im not gonna pay. The call was completely out of my control. Are they going to do the necessary things like getting your name and social, verifying that you are the homeowner of the house being called from before they accept the call. How many people will die because of that???? ............I hate California and I feel sorry for the constantly shrinking sane population there.

Yeah I don't quite understand either Titan, it just means that more people will ignore emergencies! I also thought if you had a cell phone even if you didn't have a "plan" you could still call 911 right? so how will they deal with that?

they wont. Somebody's cell phone will ping off of a tower in their area and they will send them a bill. Its classic California because they will spend more in litigation and paperwork than they will bring in.....until it is finally done away with

Its funny that California is the most liberal area in the world. These are probably the same people who bash insurance companies and HEALTHCARE COSTS.

I've heard of many places where fire departments charge when they respond to a fire. If it's not on a volunteer basis and not paid for by taxes, they have to get the money to do it somewhere. I have never heard of 911 charging. Just shows what a terrible, horrible financial condition the state is in. They've also talked about releasing prisoners to save money and most people would prefer the government have to lay people off than take a pay cut so more people can keep their jobs.
