Mr. Luongo - You proved me wrong
Roberto: I'm happy to say you came through and played a good game when it counted. You did not choke like I said you would. You proved me wrong.
Congrats to Roberto Luongo, Sidney Crosby, and the rest of the Canadian Olympic Team.

Sean, sorry bud, I am gonna disagree, she still looked pretty shaky, especially compared to Miller.
I think the talent in front of him was ultimately the deciding factor.
He wasn't really tested at all, was out of position a lot and all the juicy rebounds he gave up were cleared out of harms way by Canada's D.
You switch goalies and this game is a double digit, shutout rout for Canada. No joke.
I will agree Crosby proved once again why he's the best out there. The dude is unreal.

I agree as i did not think Luongo could win it for canada as he gives up way too many rebounds. However on this day he won Canada this game. Congrats to the USA on a Well played tournament who i thought people were underrating

He's got the Gold, and like he said no one can take that away from him. Looks really nice on him, and I'm very happy he came in to replace a very shaky/nervous Brodeur who looked average at best during his play.

What B said. I was scared with him in. He should go back to squirts and learn how to catch a puck

I'm giving full props to Luongo. As far as I'm concerned the goalie is not suppose to win the game for a team, the entire team is suppose to win the game, and thats why Canada came out on top. The pressure on that guy must have been unbelievable, especially in his home rink. I don't think anyone could say they wouldn't be a tad shaky in his shoes. Without the last save against Slovakia, the Canadians might not have been in the finals. He may not have tested a lot, but came up big when he had to and sure played a heck of a lot better than Brodeur.

It's a known fact that with the new style of goaltenders and their gloves it's designed to block rather than trap and catch. RBK, Brians, etc.. makes the trapper stiffer on the outside to keep it open to block more space.
Give me the old cooper any day

I'm not ready to anoint him the best goalie in the leauge. In fact.... he's still got a long way to go before I'll give him as much credit as Cam Ward, Marc Fleury, Ryan Miller.... the list will go on.
That all being said - He was as good as he needed to be. Was he the best goalie on the ice today? No. He didn't need to be either.
If Bobby Lou from game 7 vs Chicago showed up, the game would have been a lot different.

lets put it this way if Brodeur was in the net the US wins. Congrats to Canada for the gold and a capping off a terrific tourny. I'm sure there are more hockey fans now then there were two weeks ago

Luongo looked shakey, at best. Yes, in the end he won the game (or I should, his team won the game)...but it wasn't because of his play.
What's with the Brodeur hate? If he was in, the USA wins? It's like everyone forgot he's going to go down in history as one of the best to ever play the game. The game he lost to the USA before...the goals he let in weren't terrible, minus maybe the second goal to Raflaski. You can never blame the goalie when a puck gets deflected...but to anyone who thinks Luongo is better than Brodeur, wow. As it was already said, he didn't lose the game more than he won it. Kudos to Canada for a well played game.
And bigger kudos to team USA. Before this whole thing even started, Canada was picked to win Gold...and the USA...would they even medal? Or even win a game? They proved they can play with the big boys and it makes me proud. Granted, Miller won a game or two along the way...but a good goalie will do that for your team from time to time.
And as someone on the east coast who doesn't get to see much of guys like Jack and Erik Johnson, Drew Doughty, etc...I was extremely impressed with the play of those three guys in particular. Same goes for guys like David Backes (his goal in game 1 against the Swiss might be my favorite of the tourney) or Brendan Morrow.
Lastly, here's to what was a great game. The russia/canada game was meant to be the biggest and best in the tourney and that was the biggest dud to date. Hats off to both teams for showing up and giving 100%.
