    Group Box/Case Break Problems

I have been looking at participating in a case break but noticed how unorganized they really are. Some of them end up having 200+ posts for the entire process. They seem to be really hard to follow, especially after the fact.

Would there be any interest in a group buy organizer/draft kit?

Let me explain a bit and why I ask.

Someone that want to do a group case break decides they want a case of 2010 Upper Deck whatever... They post this in the and get how every many people they want in the break. Once they have enough interest they now gather payments. They get the payments a week later(one person always has to wait until Friday/Saturday) and the randomization of picks is now done.

At this point you already have 5 plus pages of posts and nothing has been done yet.... Lets continue.

Now all the trading to try to get pick number 1 or your favorite team. Once this is done there is another 3 pages of posts complaining about how the product is getting delayed 2 more weeks.

FINALLY, the product arrives. There are 15 pages worth of posts at this point. The live web cam broadcast happens and everyone wants for the scans to come up so they can figure out what they want.

Pick 1 happens right away. Pick 2......nobody knows where pick 2 disappeared too, that will be 3 more pages of posts talking about who he/she will pick. Pick 2 finally happens but pick 3 is now missing.

2 days later when we finally get to pick 9, pick 9 picks a guy that was already picked by #5 but missed it because it happened yesterday.

The confusion continues but eventually everyone makes it through...200 posts later.

If there was something(other than posting on a forum) that would allow easy organization of who has paid, who's pick it is, and remaining picks that would be really useful. What I am suggesting is something similar to a fantasy sport draft style software, expect drafting players, you draft cards. This would allow you as the case break organizer to view payments, easy upload system, keep track of picks instantly. As a participant, it would allow you to queue up picks, know what is left, and see scans instantly.

Now, where I come in. If there was interest in something like this, I could create this. I am a software developer and I am a sports card collector. This would be something I could develop on nights/weekends if there was enough interest.

So, now my real question, is this something that would interest you?

My idea was to make it very dynamic and fully customizable. I was not planning on doing any of the breaks thou, I would let others use the software. I guess I could do them thou, I never really thought about that.........

Please keep this thread on topic - no soliciting SCF members to other sites for group breaks.

    Thanks

What if someone develops the program and we use it for case breaks done on this site? Might make draft case breaks easier. Team case breaks are simple enough but I'd rather just have draft case breaks that are set up with a draft list format because trying to figure out what cards are already taken and who's pick it is gets really confusing especially when people sell or trade picks.

I think this is a very interesting topic. I do reporting and small scale application work as my career, and have wondered about this...not sure of the interfaace with SCF, or how it could be incorporated into a thread...or thread starter...like as picks are made, lists are updated, and cards are removed from available lists...a draft board...hmmm..boy that would make drafting easier...

    I'm not paying for that!!!!LOL

This is exactly what I was thinking or at least had the idea for. Again, I have no attention of doing case breaks myself, but a tool to make the current case breaks that happen, easier to follow.

I do large scale application work as my career and was thinking this could be a long weekend project or at the most a month long part time project(realistically a 3 month project). I think there is interest in this but am still weighting weather this is a worth while project.

    Keep the comments coming. Thanks,

    Justin

After all the comments, I have deiced this is something I am going to do, but it is on the very bottom of my priority queue. It could be months before I get too it. If there is anything special you think I should consider, let me know. Thanks,

    Justin

Personally I think this is a great idea that would make doing draft style case breaks so much easier. Would be great because then people could easily make a proxy draft list using the application by listing the cards in order of what they want.

I am curious to hear Tony's opinion on this - He does the case breaks....If it makes it easier for him to do the breaks, and less Mumbo Jumbo....I say lets do it!
