    Group Box/Case Break Problems

I have been looking at participating in a case break but noticed how unorganized they really are. Some of them end up having 200+ posts for the entire process. They seem to be really hard to follow, especially after the fact.

Would there be any interest in a group buy organizer/draft kit?

Let me explain a bit and why I ask.

Someone that want to do a group case break decides they want a case of 2010 Upper Deck whatever... They post this in the and get how every many people they want in the break. Once they have enough interest they now gather payments. They get the payments a week later(one person always has to wait until Friday/Saturday) and the randomization of picks is now done.

At this point you already have 5 plus pages of posts and nothing has been done yet.... Lets continue.

Now all the trading to try to get pick number 1 or your favorite team. Once this is done there is another 3 pages of posts complaining about how the product is getting delayed 2 more weeks.

FINALLY, the product arrives. There are 15 pages worth of posts at this point. The live web cam broadcast happens and everyone wants for the scans to come up so they can figure out what they want.

Pick 1 happens right away. Pick 2......nobody knows where pick 2 disappeared too, that will be 3 more pages of posts talking about who he/she will pick. Pick 2 finally happens but pick 3 is now missing.

2 days later when we finally get to pick 9, pick 9 picks a guy that was already picked by #5 but missed it because it happened yesterday.

The confusion continues but eventually everyone makes it through...200 posts later.

If there was something(other than posting on a forum) that would allow easy organization of who has paid, who's pick it is, and remaining picks that would be really useful. What I am suggesting is something similar to a fantasy sport draft style software, expect drafting players, you draft cards. This would allow you as the case break organizer to view payments, easy upload system, keep track of picks instantly. As a participant, it would allow you to queue up picks, know what is left, and see scans instantly.

Now, where I come in. If there was interest in something like this, I could create this. I am a software developer and I am a sports card collector. This would be something I could develop on nights/weekends if there was enough interest.

So, now my real question, is this something that would interest you?

you can still write the program even no one is interested at this point. I don't join group break as I still think it is a scam.

Interesting prospective, do you care to elaborate on how it is a scam?

How is it a scam? You pay money, you watch the break being done, then you pick the cards you want when it's your turn.

Number 1 or number 2 draft always picks the big prices. How is it not a scam when the number 1 or number 2 guy is the host itself?

Let say I only want Lebron, Kobe, MJ auto. I will buy a case? or I will just host a case break with everyone else to get my "junk"? I keep my Jordan with just spending #1 and #2 draft money. Yes, I may not get those players auto, but I definitly increase my odds to get expensive card while spending less money.

And to get #1 draft is easy. The minute I create the thread, my "friend" (or host 2nd account) will just reply "#1 please" in the next second.

I agree with what you are saying, which is why there needs to be counter-measures in place to prevent this from happening. This is why you should only do a group break with a trusted member like they do on these forums. I do agree with what you are saying if there is not proper precautions taken.

I think in these cases that it should be teams instead of cards and you get every card from that team

every team is the same price and team choices are random

I will address this from my point of view as someone who occasionally runs breaks on this site. I do not purchase a spot in my breaks unless there is no interest and i just need to get it started. As far as the program you are discussing making, I keep everything on an Excel Spreadsheet. It is the username, amount owed, paid Y/N, wants base Y/N, etc.... I usually do team breaks as i have found those much easier to fill up and less chance of being a disagreement as i tend to agree with the above regarding the number 1 and 2 spot getting the best deal. If you have anymore questions on them feel free to PM me as i think i am getting the process down to almost a science.

    Thanks
    Mitch

If I end up doing something here I will get a hold of you if that is ok with you. I would like to ask you additional questions to help make the best possible solution.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
