Oscar winners
Best Picture - The Hurt Locker
Best Actor - Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
Best Supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds)
Best Actress - Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)
Best Supporting Actress - Mo'Nique (Precious)
Best Animated Feature - Up
Hurt Locker won six: Picture, Director (first female ever to win), Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Writing (Original Screenplay)
Avatar won three: Art Direction, Cinematography, Visual Effects
Avatar went as I thought it should: best visuals, but not best story, movie, etc. I was a little surprised to see The Hurt Locker be the big winner...and I was hoping Inglourious Basterds would get a little more love. Waltz definitely deserved his, so I'm happy about that. And I can't complain about The Hurt Locker winning anything, a very, very good movie.

Got 7 wrong in this year's Oscar picks. Pretty much got all the big categories except for adapted screenplay, Percious, seriously? Only got 3 wrong last year, so this year was a bit of a disappointment for me.

I'm glad Up won a couple this year. definitely deserved them, amazing movie. I was also glad Star Trek won a couple minor ones. Because it was a blockbuster movie but way back in May where you wouldn't think would be up for many nominations.
although Avatar won 1 or 2 minor awards, I was surprised of Hurt Locker. I know that the movie is trying to get a point of view across from the soldiers in Iraq, but to me, it wasn't another Saving Private Ryan, and I think one of the other movies could've gone home with the title of Best Picture of 2009. Avatar was argued to only be well-known for stunning visuals and making it big in the box office. I just think out of Precious, The Blind Side, Avatar, and Inglorious Basterds as the competition, Hurt Locker wasn't my first pick as best picture.

I think this was a pretty weak year for movies IMO

I figured Avatar was going to run away with the awards, as that movie had all the hype and was talked about by everyone, everywhere. Haven't seen Hurt Locker, but have heard good things about it. Also glad to see Sandra Bullock win an Oscar. She's one of my favorite actors/actresses.

Honestly, if you DO end up seeing Hurt Locker, don't expect a modern-day Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down.. it was good, but nothing really memorable IMO. Thought Avatar, Blind Side, or Precious should've won.

It's a completely different type of movie than those though. It's more like Jarhead (although better). Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down focused on entire wars or campaigns, The Hurt Locker and Jarhead focus on one soldier in a war. If that's what you were expecting, no wonder you were disappointed. I thought it was a great movie, but I knew going in it wasn't an epic war film. In most cases, what you think about a film is all about what expectations you had for it going in.

This is a better comparison, although I thought Jarhead was pretty weak. However, that is a much better comparison for the type of movie

I can't comment on Precious since I never saw it but I'm glad Hurt Locker beat Avatar and Blind Side. Avatar had great visual effects but overall I thought it was just a slightly above average movie. Blind Side is a nice story but it is the type of cookie cutter easy to make movie that comes out all the time. Hurt Locker was much better overall than both IMO
