BOOO Mike Helton
Your a joke Mike Helton, and nascar. You are so inconsistant. Have at it boys, and if you find it nessary to take out other cars its ok. I read in my local newspaper, Syracuse NY Post Standard Today (Sports section) Mike Helton was quoted "Said Edwards acted UNACCEPTABLY Sunday but did not cross the line in what the sanctioning body will allow this season."

Am I the only one confussed here? In one breath he says one thing, but in another breath he did not cross the line. If he did not cross the line, then WHAT was unacceptable? I guess when Edwards was in the nascar hauler he must have taken his shirt off and flexed his muscles. (his ripped) body must have scared Mike Helton and nascar.

Not sure what you expect....he said 'take the gloves off and have at it.'
What's he supposed to do? He put NASCAR in a corner by saying that, and they can't take ANOTHER credibility hit by changing their mind and suspending Carl.

So the saying give and take goes out the window? So what happens when the next guy does this? The drivers now know what they can get away with. Will this encourage (the pay back)?

That was NASCAR's plan all along, wasn't it?

This is just like the nfl encouraging the late hit and not calling a penalty

Not really. A late hit in the NFL was never acceptable. Drivers paying back others in the past was a pretty normal occurrence. NASCAR kept slowly taking away any edge out there from drivers, and they finally decided to give it back.

Yeah this was an extreme case of have at it boys-as long as we dont see retaliation at Dega and Daytona I think we are good. And as soon as we get the stupid wing off the cars wont fly as easily-which is a lot of the reason any of this is a big deal.

NASCAR hasn't always been like this. There were more fights off the track then on in the old days. Only time most of the time an intetional wreck happened it was for the win and then possibly payback after the race was over. Not many times that I remember someone taking someone out during the race so blatantly w/out making it look like it could have been an accident. Trying 2 times before that and missing only makes it look worse. Never anyother cars around during that time. This will happen again and take more than the 2 drivers involved out. What happens when Jimmie gets caught up in it? Or Jr, or Gordon, etc...?
And sparking talk isn't always good if it is for the wrong reasons. I listen to alot of sports talk radio, several different guys and for the most part NASCAR is getting dissed as a 2nd tier sport and worse. It just shows how desperate NASCAR is for news.
When I heard them say they wanted to let the drivers "have at it" I took it to mean that they could go after each other off the track more and not risk getting suspended. I thought they were going to allow them to race below the yellow lines. Not just start wrecking each other for everything.
In a sport where you have 3-4 big teams and everyone else is barely surviving you are now allowing people to wreck cars not only during a race but after and intentionally costing a heck of alot of $ for everyone involved. And now that everyone knows they can do it then how much is this going to happen? It will get old pretty fast.
Fix the product on the track, the actual racing! Even the competition more. This cheap thrill won't get you much publicity very long, at least not good publicity.
