    Rip Off or Pay Off?

You see these kinds of Auctions on EBay all the time. The ones offering a "variety" of cards or packs for a low, low price simply because the owner wants to clean out his/her apartment, basement, garage, etc. My question is, are these kinds of Auctions a good buy? Or should they be avoided?

Here are two like Im talking about.

Any input would be nice, thanks.

First of all, the "My husband had a heart attack" tale is false. These auctions are posted by a guy. Plus I've seen those auctions being posted 6+ months back, I doubt the "husband" has been having a heart attack every week.

As for how good the auctions are, I dont know. I've only bought one or two of those auctions, I've gotten some pretty good cards, nothing great, but not total crap ethier.

    Interesting....

What about 50 card lots of an all-star caliber player?

Are those rip offs, too? Im looking at bidding on one like these and while Im not expecting to find that players most expensive cards, is it too much to believe that I'd get 50 random Near Mint+ cards of the player?

Sorry for asking so many questions, but Im just basically trying to get a feel for EBay.... Trying to find out whats good to buy there and what, if anything, to avoid.

I did auctions of GU, graded, stars and no commons for $1 a lot.
Once I got cheated, another time it turned out really good.
    Got a few Jeter RC's.

Forget the "heart attack" deal. I also remember it in ebay a while back. As for the auctions, it depends on what you want and how much you want to pay. Ask the seller questions. An example is I like to buy SF Giants baseball cards. If the auction is selling just Giants cards, I personally like to know what years are involved, who some of the players are, if there are doubles, etc. I also want to know shipping cost if it is not listed. Sometimes the auctions are really cheap but the shipping is really expensive.

most of those are rip offs... they give you a couple decent packs and the rest is crap ..even if you do get an insert, it is from a crappy brand so its not worth anything.
