This is for the Hart not the Calder.

"The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition" (straight from the NHL site)

It actually is about individual achievements. So I feel that Duchene or Myers have to win it.

Could not agree more. Howard has been good be at times he has been pretty bad too, getting torched for 4 or 5 goals (not saying one or two games is any reason to count him out completely) I just feel that Duchene and Myers have been great and have been great consistently. The reason I think Myers deserves it more than Duchene is simply because his offensive stats are pretty close to Duchene's. Myers is a D-Man and if his offensive stats are as close as they are to Duchene and his defensive abilities are also very high which they are, I don't see any reason for anyone but Myers to win the Calder.

On Versus the other night the analysts all agreed Myers will run away with it.

I have said Duchene is going to be a stud, but Myers has 7 less points then him, as a Defensemen, and plays against the #1 line every night.

Leads rookies in assists, time on ice, blocked shots, and 2nd in +/- hasn't missed a game...etc

Sorry Duchene fans, but Myers runs away with the Calder, there hasn't been a dominant first year D-man in a while (Drew Doughty was -17 as a rookie imagine what Myers does in his second year)

It would be nice to see Rask get the Calder, but I think I want Duchene to get it even more.
    Duchene for Calder!
I was actually trying to do some of his hockey stick tricks and obviously couldn't do them

Hmmm another point for Myers (so 46 and solely in 2nd above Tavares now) and another +1 so far (tied for 1st now in the league)

Again without a doubt your ROY

Just saying, the last time a defenceman won the calder was in 2002-03 Barret Jackman and then before that was 1996-97 when Bryan Berard won it. It's not easy for a defenceman to win this thing so that's one thing working against him. The last 20 times it was handed out, a defenceman has only won it 3 times.

I think Myers has to win it! He definitely deserves to win it. Duchene is 2nd on my list, Rask is 3rd and Howard is 4th.

Tyler Myers should win it. I think Rask would have won it if he had played more games though. Myers has 46 points as a d-man and leads rookies in almost every single other catagory. For Duchene to deserve it he would need to outscore a D-man by more than 7 points as a center...

Very good point, however, Duchene has been a big reason why a team projected to do nothing has done so much more. I also think that Myers should win, but scoring is not always a good way to determine who should win an award. Especially one that does not necessarily have anything to do with offense. At least in name.

Scoring doesn't determine it all (but let's remember the Calder is not most valuable to his team it's best overall rookie) - but Myers has only 7 fewer points as a #1 defensemen.

If you want to base it on team projections The Sabres missed the playoffs the last 2 years, and are #2 in the East with Myers. Miller has been stellar of course as well, but the only real change in the lineup was Myers.
