A little late on the update, but it's a good one! In May of 2012, I added just 11 cards, and it is quite rare for me to have found more one year later than not. However, this month featured one very large purchase, so please read on!
Here is the MAY 2013 update!
The totals:
60 (!) cards added May 2013. (3,436 total) I am now 564 cards away from 4,000.
4 different cards added May 2013.
9 RC cards added May 2013.
2 serial numbered cards added May 2013.
2 serial numbered RC cards added May 2013.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Well, thanks to my friends over at thePit, I was able to hoard... er... purchase a large lot of Matt's 2004 Bowman Chrome Uncirculated White Refractors. There are only 210 made, according to Topps in 2004, but they are not serial numbered. This allowed me to pass two very significant milestones, so make sure you read the last section this month!
That gives me a rather large portion of the print run, but more on that in a few weeks or so. I am waiting for a few more cards to come in before I publish a few figures. The other cards picked up were Bowman, two Donruss Classics, and a few Topps Total.
MILESTONES:
Two HUGE milestones!
First, my count: Over 3,400 cards now!
Second, my collection's BV: The major milestone! Over $20,000 in BV!
On a frustrating note, I am missing one graded card, a 2004 Reflections numbered either 17/ or 1150/1150 (I don't remember which one I had...). I have no idea where it went. Very upset. So the -1 is also reflected in this month's total. Gotta keep looking for that card...
Thanks for checking out my update, and with a bunch more on the way in June, it's shaping up to be a great summer!

Great additions and update. Maddening when you lose a card. It has to show up someplace.

Again, late on the update. Work is, well... work.
June was yet another very solid month! A bunch of different cards, including a few "premium" ones, and one I don't see very often. Also, more on my acquisitions from thepit.com below. Something is VERY FISHY about Topps' stated print runs...
The JUNE 2013 update:
The totals:
29 cards added June 2013. (3,465 total) I am now 535 cards away from 4,000.
6 different cards added June2013.
18 RC cards added June2013.
1 serial numbered card added June2013.
1 serial numbered RC card added June2013.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Picked up one I don't see a whole ton, his 2004 Upper Deck Finite HG RC /275. This is my 29th copy of this card.
Also picked up a 2004 Bowman Chrome RC (my 147th) and a 2004 Topps Chrome RC (my 152nd).
MILESTONES:
So... Topps... you have some 'splaining to do...
I picked up 11 more 2004 Bowman Chrome "Uncirculated" White Refractors from my friends at thepit.com. I put the "Uncirculated" in quotes, because, well... I am just not so sure how uncirculated these really are. Here's why... When I bought my first batch, they had a Topps Uncirculated sticker on it. Since, thepit.com has been taken over a few times, first by Naxcom, then most recently by Sportsbuy. Needless to say, these have been put into various "uncirculated" holders over the years (10 years now...). Well, I have a friend at Sportsbuy, and I was able to purchase a bunch of these in the past few months. Here comes the issue...
Topps, according to past literature, Beckett, and a few other sources, produced 210 sets. To that, I say LIES!
I have a few thoughts on the issue, but mainly, here's my question: What's the appropriate number to produce as a contingency plan for damaged cards, replacements, etc? If that number is 10%, which would seem a little high, then maybe, just maybe that's OK. I think 21 cards is a lot, but that would bring us to 231 total cards produced, with 21 obviously never intending to be distributed. However, I still have an issue.
Topps... I have 238 of these cards... you said you only made 210. WHAT?!?
If 10% is the replacement run, then that really hurts the value of some cards, no? Especially if these are either eventually released or find their way out the door somehow.
Not sure how I feel about this, but I would love to hear anyone's thoughts!
See you next month!

My thoughts? Typical. Lots of mistakes even when they are serial numbered. I would think 20% wouldn't be at outrageous number of extras "just in case" but if they didn't get requests for them in 2 years they should ave been destroyed. I know that's frustrating buddy.

I also don't think the companies ever imagined someone would put together over 200 of them, either. I'm not too frustrated, but it makes me wonder... ya know?

You are right since it seems like more and more the companies are publishing print runs without actually numbering.
