Glad to see you get Bert Thiel. He is a family friend of ours and i visited his house two years ago. He is a very interesting guy and could talk about baseball all day. He appreciates his fans, and im happy to see he is doing all right and responded to your letter.

I interviewed Bert Thiel for my book and he gave me almost an hour of his time on the phone. He was great. He sent me some cool photos in the mail to use and told me to call him if I needed to follow up.

Yeah, he was great to talk to. He has many interesting stories, like how he struck out Mickey Mantle in spring training. He could rattle on and on about baseball and his experiences if he wanted to. My two hours I spent at his house a while back was certainly time well spent.

Jim Robertson - played a brief career with the 1954-55 A's
Larry Eschen - 12 game career as a middle infielder with the 1942 A's. Never got a major-league hit.

ya know ive never thought about doing a questionnaire. I wonder how many current and retired nfl players, coaches, etc. would take the time to answer it.

Les Mueller - pitched for the Tigers in 1941 & 1945. A cool note about his career: On July 21, 1945, Mueller put in one of the greatest pitching performances in major league history. He pitched the first 19-2/3 innings for the Tigers and left having given up only 1 run. No pitcher has thrown as many innings in a major league game since Mueller's feat. The game lasted 4 hours and 48 minutes before umpire Bill Summers called the game a tie due to darkness at 7:48 p.m. (Shibe Park had lights, but the American League had a rule against using the lights during a scheduled day game.)

Jack Spring - 8-year career began with the Phillies in 1955. A nice return considering he has Parkinsons.
