How many times can you do free price checks before you have to pay for a subscription or use the "my collection" cheat to get free pricing? If I am by a card shop I just look in their beckett for free every once in a great while or in a store that sells them to see what the cards have done over the years.

I haven't bought a beckett in years and years. I do 60's and 70's and Kelloggs cards. They have been out of touch for years. I pay what I what I think is a fair price or what I want to pay. If it's Nm/MT upgrade..I'll pay more if I feel like...or not.

As far as beckett is concerned...if you hate it...don't use it or buy it. That's what stops it. Just have fun collecting.

I saw it coming for years now, Jim Beckett finally sold off Beckett a few months back. Dr. James Beckett was a good man in my opinion, who had a love for our hobby and did alot behind the scenes to take it mainstream. Eventually as the Hobby took off he branched out and branched out and hired more and more people until Beckett became a farse.
I think Mr. Beckett was probally disgraced with the current state of his business and his beloved hobby and thats why he decided to cutt ties and run. I remember in the boom of the late 80's aand early 90's when I could look up cards in Beckett take em down to my local hobby shop and already consider 50% of book as being in my pocket when I walked in the store. I remember the early 90's when I was getting 75% of book for Griffey Jr.s.
At one time we had 9 card shops all operating at once, now we are down to 1. Oddly enough he was the Original dealer in town and he has only been able to stay in business because he evolved and branched out himself. Id say 75% of his sales are Memrabilia or Jerseys/Caps. He sells on Ebay more than he does in the shop, I think he keeps his store openb just basicly to store stuff and to communicate with everyone in the hobby. His singles he sells are not even 75% of book unless its something hot Like Brady or Big Ben and of Course Alexanders there usually go for 200% Book Value along with any other Crimson Tide Alumni.
When Im in the shop doing some Buying or Trading we never refer to Book Values, if we cant come to an agreement we usually check ebay as its an closer guage of value than beckett.

BTW when I try to search for free on beckett it only allows me to do this once then I have to close out my connection if I want to search again. Ive hit the search again key but it never allows me to search again. Ive tryed the tricks you guys state and have been using the My Collection feature for the last week or so. I wish I could search for free like yall seem to be doing but it never allows me to do it more than once.

You don't have to seach. Use the "my collection" part of Beckett. All you do is make a collection name and than start adding the cards. You can have as many different collection that you want.(baseball cards, football cards, RC, GU etc.....). If you have the Beckett on-line PG the BV's for each card shows up. Also at the top of the collection it will give you you "Total Value". The "Total Value" will be there if you have a subscription or not. So if you want to find a value for a certain card all you need to do is make another collection folder(test, price check....ete) and move that card over. It will give you a Total at the top. Which is the BV of the card. What I'll do if say I'm making a trade with you is I'll make two collection names ("Goonerfor" & "Goonerfrom") than enter the cards I have for you and enter the cards I'm getting from you. It will tell you the BV of each. Anyways it's pretty easy to figure out. Just go to the "my collection" part of Beckett. I haven't renewed my on-line PG for years. Thanks, Roger
