Topps Support for missing auto from 2010 Bowman!

I wrote Topps customer support yesterday in regards to not getting my auto in a hobby box yesterday, I didn't get the auto and there was one base refractor, about the most miserable box I've ever seen. This is what they sent me today.

    1) A letter of explanation - How about I bought an overpriced box which promises and auto and there was none. Now I would like a letter from Topps why they believe letters of explanation should be written after I already sent and email.
    2) A copy of sales receipt - Now I have to go back to the store and get a receipt because there was none because I buy from the store almost everyday.
    3) All pack wrappers & or mini boxes from the product - I busted this product in the store and I do not carry my wrappers home to make a wrapper display, I'm guessing they took out their garbage yesterday - I have never seen this request before this is ridiculous.
    4) The UPC code (bar code) from the Main box

I'm guessing this is Topps way of saying you probably don't have all of these so we won't have to give you an auto.

I've had to do this for a few boxes/packs I was shorted. Never had any issues - they've always given me what I was shorted, if not more.

what do I do without the packs, I have dealt with others before and they don't ask for the empty packs, it seems that it is just a way for them to not have to honor my request.

I understand your reason for being upset but topps has to cover their end as well. I mean if all you had to do is call them and say I was shorted an auto please send me one. Everyone would just call up and say I was shorted and try and get free stuff. Also think about the times you bought a box and got one more hit then you were supposed to. It does even out in long run. Yes it does suck hard but has happend to all of us before I am sure. It happened to me awhile back on a box of 07 stuff and was told the product was over a year old so they would not make good for it.

I admit I've been collecting on an off for years - so maybe things changed between 2003-2009 when I stopped collecting - but for the 20 years before that this was standard procedure.

Every single one of their requests is legit. If you make sports card purchases on a daily basis you should know what you need if you want to request basically "free" items - whether guaranteed or not.

So if you opened all the packs at the store, realized you didn't get your item, why wouldn't you immediately check the box to see what their policy is?? I'd be shocked it if wasn't on there somewhere.

I hope you get something from Topps that you want - but I personally don't think you can blame Topps at all for requiring what they require. It's standard business.

I have sent it back without the packs, they usually don't have an issue with that.

the only thing I have a problem with is the empty packs, I had the box top for them with the number on it and the UPC code from the box I just think it's ridiculous to ask for the packs, having to package all the empty packs up and send it to them and then hope they don't send you a $2.00 auto so you lost money and time in the process. I agree I don't believe they should have to accomodate everyone just calling in and saying they didn't have an auto, give me one! But....on the other hand it states there is a RC auto and it is their fault that boxes are shorted and from what I can see, it's quite a few boxes, therefore it is a quality control issue with their product.

all of this seems pretty standard for a lot of businesses.

    1) They need a letter of explanation because hey its a big company and the person dealing with fulfilling replacements isn't the same guy that answers the emails so they need to know whats going on when they open up the package you send
    2) Not getting a receipt from the store actually is their fault in not giving you one in order to prove proof of purchase. I think most people that buy boxes don't go as often where the owner does not give them one with their purchase
    3) They also want to make sure someone bought the full box. I know from talking with other hobby shops there are frequent customers that clean out the last few packs in a box and get the box too. Topps knows about some trickery that collectors have

Topps is merely saying we need proof to show you bought the entire box and in fact there was a hit card that was shorted
