This is a funny question. However, the datsyuk has 250 copies in there world and the Gaborik has 99 copies in the world.

The answer would be the one with the 99 copies, therefore the Gaborik /99 is rarer.

With the OP wondering which would be the tougher card to find, you can't strictly base it on being the lesser printed card. If you go solely compare the print runs. If you only look at the print runs, that means that a Wade Redden jersey /50 would be tougher to find than a Mario Lemieux jersey /150 if you pretended they were both the same card with different print runs (like frozen artifacts). More people would keep the Lemieux for their PC and have Redden on ebay or sitting in their bucket. Therefore, the tougher card to pull is Redden, but the tougher one to find would be the Gretzky.

Obviously I am exaggerating quite a bit, but it is only for the purpose of saying that print runs cannot be the sole factor. I think reoddai makes a great point below as well.

I know a couple of people have talked about how 250 is bigger than 99, so its less rare. There are other issues at play though.

How many hardcore Gabby collectors are there vs Datsyuk. I know quite a few hardcore gabby, but only a couple of hardcore Datsyuk. Gabby was recently moved to a new team and some collectors might let him go after that. Datusyk is still strong in Detroit.

Age plays a factor. The older the card, generally the harder it is to find. Gabby is a 00-01, but Datsyuk is a 01-02. If you asked the 250 Datsyuk Premier RC vs say... a 09-10 Ice Kane Rc /99, I'd say the Kane is easier to find.

Also, there's the issue of product being broken, I don't know much about this era of cards. Someone will else will have to speak of this though.

If Titanium was heavily broken, we can expect 90% of the 99 RC are in the market. If Premier was lightly broken, maybe we can only expect about 30% of its 250 RC to be in the market. That would make 90 copies of the Gabby in circulation vs 75 copies of the Datsyuk. I don't know enough about either of these sets to make a call.

When in doubt, check the bay.

    In the past 30 days, 2 gabby's:

In the past 30 days, 1 Datsyuk:

    Rarer? Datsyuk ATM.

    Good luck with either card.

    Cheers,
    reoddai

I can't say I considered the years of the cards and the break ratios for each set (on modern sets). That's much further in depth than I orginally considered, and yet both are valid points. While it would be tough to get an idea of break ratios, there are some set collectors that may know of what didn't sell as well compared to other sets

With that said, this thread definitely brings up some points that I've never really considered before.

Thanks for the inout everyone. Unforunately I was outbid on both of them! Also ironically the Datsyuk Sold for way more. So right now I am debating to take a chance of this

I am not sure if it is worth the risk with the patch. Any thoughts?

I guess it depends on if it's for your PC and to keep forwever or if you hope his values increase in the future for you to sell.

I don't know anything about how other cards sell fomr this from this set, but it $220 looks very expensive to me. Not sure about other members' thoughts, but in my opinion, Bouwmeester's highest value was when he was about to become a UFA. Obviously that doesn't say a thing about the future, but unfortunately since he signed with Calgary his points (mainly goals) dropped like a brick and therefore, it seems like his collectability went the same way (just my point of view). Like I said though, I don't know anything about this set and wouldn't know how the asking price compares to other RCs.

Something to note: defencemen typically don't get nearly as much hobby love as forwards and goalies and therefore, their demand is lower (with the exception of some of the top d-men). My thinking is that their collectibility isn't as high because many collectors want to collect players who rack up the points or the goalies that make the saves and earn wins.
