Generic Names for Soft Drinks...broken down map style

I just thought this was cool. I've had many conversations on this topic and I've had to explain to many tourists that in Franklin, NC, coke often means any soft drink, not just Coca-Cola. So for my area, the map is 100% accurate.

What about your area? Is the map right? Do you go against the popular trend?

My area shows as 80-100% "Pop", but I do call it soda...and I don't agree that 80-100% call it pop...it's more soda than pop here, at least from what I've seen/heard.

Looks like it is called "Pop" in my area (Western PA) although I have called it pop (mostly), soda (occasionally), and soda pop (rarely but do). Guess I should be living closer to Central PA then...

Very interesting, and thanks for sharing!

I go against the trend. My county is dark blue for 80-100% pop but I say soda because I spent quite a few years with my uncle in northern Virginia where they say soda (also represented by the map).

However, all of my kids and my wife say pop...so there is a language barrier in our house LOL

That's funny. I'm from Ohio and a few years ago I was visiting Florida and I was in a Quizno's and said that I wanted a "pop." The lady says, "A what? Where are you from?!" I live in Texas now and it's still pop for me, but coke for my wife and everyone else I know.
