The One(s) That Got Away...
We've all had those moments where an eBay auction comes to an end, you've been watching the card since you first saw it posted, and were waiting patiently for the end so you could put in your bid...except that when the time comes, you're somewhere else.
Or worse still, that card you've been the high bidder on the whole time that has seen no other activity suddenly and completely unexpectedly slips through your fingers, as some mystery collector swoops in and puts forward a bid that went way beyond what you thought anybody would pay for such a card, and there's nothing you can do because the joy and elation you felt for grabbing that whale has turned to despair when with one second left on the clock the bid amount jumps to a shockingly high amount. That might be the most epic run-on sentence ever, though it is gramatically correct. LOL
Here's a toast to the ones that got away...
The Josh Gorges Hot Prospects White Hot /5 that ended up going for 75 bucks to blow away my 60 dollar max bid.
The Gorges SP Authentic Printing Plate that hit 80 dollars after being dormant for 6 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 31 seconds.
The two Carey Price BAP Players' Club /25 parallels that went for 5 bucks each and I was watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
The Carey Price Ice Signature Swatches that sold for $11.50 while I was out for a walk.

Well, no shame in watching Wrath of Khan. Cleary the best of all the Star Trek movies.... so at least you didn't completely lose out that night.
I've done it a lot - forgot about an auction, and then lost out.
Worst one was, I'm going to guess around last November. A Ranford card /10 (from 06-07 BTP) was up that I needed.... which is a very rare find. I was watching football, didn't even have the computer turned on. It just hit me that I'd forgotten about it, turned on the computer, and I'd missed the end of the auction by about 2 minutes. It sold for under $40 - I would have happily paid double.

Things that make you go 'ouch'! lol Great thread...
For me there are two so far -- one was the Jayna Hefford 2007-08 ITG O Canada Emblem /20 that I just couldn't afford.
The other was the Tyler Moss 97-98 Donrus Priority Stamp of Approval /100 that I let slide because it sold for more than I thought it should --- it'll turn up again, I said... eventually.
*sigh*

I wussy-bet on the Turris Premier RC 1/1 twice! I guess I had to get back on my feet to take that second knockdown. What a brutal effort. I deserved it, both times. :( Looking back on it, I really under-bid on the 07-08 O Canada Turris Emblems and Autographs card, too. If I had won it then, I'd have the Turris O Canada rainbow completed. Now I have to hold my breath for another to pop up,which is a long shot!

I had the 05-06 spxcitement spectrum auto version (/5 rc year) pop up on ebay 3-4 months ago. It was at a very high bin so i made an offer and went back and forth a couple times. We ended up being $20 apart. I forgot about it for a week or so then went back and it was sold for less than what i had offered the week before. So if anyone knows the ebayer "canuckmikey" let him know that if he decides to move the card i would be very interested.
