2010-11 Rookies: Who's Getting the Love?
The picks are made, the jerseys are being prepped for sale, and opening night is only 3 months away. So tell me, who do you think is going to be seeing a lot of love this coming season, and who is going to be underappreciated?
Taylor Hall is this year's Malkin/Price/Stamkos/Tavares - he'll be the guy that everybody wants to pull and those RCs are going to fetch some huge dollars. I think he'll also put up the numbers in Edmonton to justify it.
PK Subban is the best "hold-over" RC I think we'll see for years. Generally the guys that are late-season callups don't get a ton of attention when their RCs first appear the next season. Pernell Karl is going to buck that trend and be the most popular Habs rookie since 07-08.
Tyler Seguin - this is a tough one. In my eyes, he was never going to be the #1 pick despite all the "Taylor v. Tyler" hype. The talk around him is a lot like the talk about Duchene last year, and I think that's where he's going to fit in - strong but definitely a gap between him and Taylor.
Those will be our big three for next year - who else was picked and is NHL-ready enough to make the roster of their new team?
I'm not sure how many of them will make the jump right away. The TSN guys kept hammering at the theme of "NHL ready" last night - obviously the teams in the top 10 spots need some help (save for the Bruins) so could we see the likes of Gudbranson with Florida, Niederreiter on the Island, and others? I honestly don't know, if someone wants to fill me in, great.
I may start up a Beau Bennett collection one day - he played junior in the town I was born in Penticton. I'm also still waiting to see where Brett Bulmer, Lucas Bloodoff, and the rest of the draft-eligible Kelowna Rockets get picked.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Yeah, I agree. Hall's YG looks like it will fetch 100-120bv. While Seguin's YG will fall in the 40-60bv range. As a Maple Laugh fan, I suspect Kadri making a splash come training camp. So if he makes it, expect a Subban-like demand for his RCs.

Next year looks to be a HUGE rookie year for hockey cards. Let me just list a few that could see a lot of hobby love:
Taylor Hall--plays for a Canadian team in Edmonton. should be able to put up decent points as a rookie
Tyler Seguin--plays for a big market in Boston. should be able to put up decent points as a rookie.
any other first rounder who cracks the NHL--they will all be massively hyped and all have a lot of potential.
Cody Hodgson--Once again on a Canadian team who could be a second line center next year.
Brayden Schenn--If he makes it his blood lines will make him have a few fans to start off.
Jacob Markstrom--Best goalie prospect who is turning pro. Goalies always get hobby love plus the Panthers have some great patches.
Nazem Kadri--Playing for the Leafs automatically makes him a great pull.
Jordan Eberle--Playing for a Canadian team. Everyone from Canada knows how clutch that he is. Already has a following.
PK Subban--All Habs fans love him and with his attitude and sense of humor he will be loved league wide.
Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson--Another Oil rookie who has speed and skills to put up good points as a rookie.
Eric Tangradi--He may not be the most skilled but he is a big boy who is a winger on the Pens. If he finds a spot playing alongside Crosby or Malkin he will be loved.
Jakub Kindl--Wings rookies always get love and he has had three full years in the AHL. He will step in next year and play a decent role on his team.
Jordan Schroeder--Small skilled player on the Canucks may take a bit to be a great player but he has a ton of potential.
Kyle Beach--The Hawks will have to use rookies to save on cap space and he is big and talented and mean.

Maybe they won't get a ton of hobby love, but as a Boston U alum and Carolina Hurricanes fan I'm really excited for Brandon Yip and Jamie McBain making their hobby debut. Hoping I'll be able to pick them up for less than $120 bv. =P

Besides the fact that Jakub Kindl already has rookie cards.
I already know one Blue Jacket player that will have a super collector after the end of next years rookie collection contest.

I'm looking forward to picking up some Beach RCs, Geoffrion too. Again, I have dibs on ALL Geoffrion cards (I called it like last year, lol).

Cant wait to see if Jordan Schroeder makes the Canucks. If he can get on a line with Raymond and Kesler they will FLY.
