I don't know how it works in other sports, but there has never been an MVP in the NBA whose team didn't at least make the playoffs IIRC. Obviously, a great player's team should at least be able to do that, which is why I argued against LeBron being the MVP earlier in this thread.

The MVP is for the regular season which is all that matters. That's why there's 2 different awards, one for the season and one for the playoffs. Peyton Manning had a more remarkable regular season than any other player last year. You can't even deny that. The numbers and records he set were astounding. If not for him, the Colts wouldn't even be a contender. Brady doesn't even have a chance to beat any of those numbers in his whole career. He's overrated, if you ask me. I know you're gonna debate, but if not for the Pats defense, they wouldn't be where they are, period. The Pats defense is what fuels their offense and gives them confidence. I just hope the Colts give the Pats what they deserve next year. I'm so over the Pats. If you can't tell, I live in Indiana and I'm a big Colts fan.

Ironically, the MVP and the runner-up are down 3-0 together in the conference finals thus far. It'd be interesting if the Spurs and Pistons met in the finals - they aren't marketing darlings like Miami or Phoenix, but their team play and defense are outstanding.

"Do you consider Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups, and/or Rip Hamilton more valuable than Kevin Garnett or Shaquille O'Neal last season? Even though basketball emphasizes individuals more than many other sports, it still takes a cohesive team to win a title. The greatest player doesn't necessarily have to be on the championship team."JammingJames23

"Well, Detroit is one of those strange fluke teams that doesn't have a superstar, so that is a tough choice, but yes I would pick one of them(chauncey) over a guy (garnett) who's team does squat."Insane Irish

So you are saying Chauncey is more valuable than KG? Cause thats what i gathered. If so look at it this way this year was like the 1stin i think 8 years the T-wolves didn't make the playoffs. Chauncey has only been good in Detroit. Also if KG don't play T-Wolve are not ganna win but is Chauncey sits Pistons still have a great shot at winning the game. That is value.
