To Early to Mention Triple Crown?
Incase you havent noticed it, there is a REAL chance Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers could do it this year, his stats as of right now are...
Batting Average- 5th with .339 (Justin Morneau is at .344 in 1st place)
Home Runs- 2nd with 20 (Bautista has 21 in 1st place)
RBIs- 1st with 71 (Vlad Guerrero has 70 in 2nd place)
Cabrera has a legit chance mostly because teams are getting forced to pitch to him because Brennan Boesch gives great protectionHidden Content

I usually do not put serious consideration towards a Tripple Crown chase until there is about ~20 games to go left in the season. Anything prior just leaves too much room for progression/degression. Heck, even 20 games is a lot of room to sway. Having said that, I guess it's never too early to discuss, but to seriously discuss, it's perhaps a bit premature.
But since we are, I say he has a zero chance at it. He is having a very good first half, and I think he will have a slim chance to match this in the second half. Also, his RBI production thus far is abnormal for him. Personally, I think he will end up .320 / 35 / 110. Very solid numbers, but I doubt he wil lbe #1 in any TC catagory let alone all 3.

Yea, but to have the numbers he does in July does give notice that he has a slim chance at the moment...He's just going into his prime, i can easily see 130-140 RBIs from him, that is as long as Ordonez, Damon, Jackson get on base for him to continue to drive them in

You could see it that way, but I look at it another way. Seeing just how good he has been of late, I feel the numbers are a bit inflated to simply put a x2 next to them and call it a Tripple crown season.
There is no doubt he is tearing the cover off the ball right now, but to continue to produce like this for the entire season is very tough, and something he has yet to do. Regardless the protection he has now, if he continues to be hot, he is going to be pitched around and see less and less pitches to hit.
This is all speculation though, if he winds up hitting .350 / 50 / 140, I would not be shocked as he has the talent! It's just he has never produced for an entire season before like he does in june/july.
Not to mention Morneau is going to make it very difficult to catch the BA #1, and Cano is not slowing down either. HR's, he has a chance, but if Hamilton continues to produce, he is going to need ~50 to contend. And RBI's? He has only hit more than 120 once in his career, and hit 103 last year in 160 games. He is going to have to hit 130 - 140 to keep pace with the leaders when it's all said and done.
But I will say again, even to get a mention as a TC candidate and place in the top 3 or so of all these catagories is impressive!

Yes. It's way too early.
Don't forget you crowned Ubaldo Cy Young already back in May....

I was noticing this too. And Josh Hamilton is right up there in all three categories too.. I'd like to see somebody do it. Last person i remember being this legit for a TC was D.Lee in 05
