I've talked to some LCS about this before. My question is, why would any owner do that? The only way you're going to get customers to keep coming back is getting those huge hits. If you buy half a box of single packs and get no hits, you're never going to spend your money on packs again. There is one shop here in Columbus that I never go to, they lost a customer who spends a lot of money b/c of this. If you keep doing it you're going to have no customers over an $20-80 box hit.

Yeah - but if they get a box hit - they stay happy - What is stopping shops from getting the CASE hit and then putting the rest of the boxes on the shlef...customers stay happy with box hits but never a case hit

I used to go into a card shop that would have these incredible hits from product they usually had 3 open boxes of on the shelves. I normally don't buy packs.

Ah, but this is the case. At least, I'd bet it happens more than LCSs would ever admit. Find the box hit, sell off the rest of the packs. Find the case hit, sell off the rest of the boxes. Who would ever know?

I would consider that a far worse infraction than retail pack searching.

the owner of a lcs card store in my area (which has now unfortunatly shut down :( once told me a story of how he had some packs of 07-08 hot prospects behind the counter on the shelf. of cource he wasn't letting anybody see which packs were fat, but anyways he said some people went in with a camera phone, leaned over the counter, reached up with the phone and took pictures of the packs in the box to try to see which ones were thicker... Personally, with all the decoys out nowadays, i would much rather have a shot at a young guns rookie cards then a shot at a common jersey or, more likely, a decoy.
