Cup in sight for the Caps?
Scott Burnside
In a division with a clear favorite, the question is whether anyone can challenge the Washington Capitals. As for the Capitals, their biggest challenge will be getting over last year's playoff calamity.
Washington Capitals
In a division awash in change, the Capitals remain constant. Same coach, GM and star-studded lineup that ran away with the Presidents' Trophy last season. But after choking up a 3-1 series lead against eighth-seeded Montreal in the first round, the big question is whether that's a good thing. The goaltending looks to be handled by kids Semyon Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth, with veteran Jose Theodore looking for work elsewhere, and that's not all bad given Neuvirth's work in the minors the past couple of years. The Caps still need a second-line center, but this remains a team that will vie for the NHL lead again this season. But like San Jose before them, all eyes will be focused on how the Caps perform come springtime, not in between.

Caps will not win the Cup this year, they rely on one guy.

Only when they solve their problems between the pipes and in some individual cases, between their ears, will they be ready.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I'm sure Tampa Bay , with Lecavalier , St.Louis , Stamkos , Gagne , Malone could give the Caps a great run

I give them four years.
During that spam, they should be able to keep their core (Ovie, Backstrom, Semin, Green and Varlamov) intact. The group will mature and learn together. Hopefully, they will be able to develop or acquire one or two strong second liners. Alzner and Carlsson would also mature and become very nice two and three defensmen.
But after four years, late first round pick, age and salary cap will hurt them big time.I collect the following:
- Vintage (Stars and RC)
- 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
- Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
- Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
- Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)

The Only thing wrong with the Caps was the same thing that was wrong with the Russians at the Olympics... They don't put together a 100% team effort. It seems that Ovy\Backstrom\Semin\Green and company were trying to do it themselves instead of planning as a team.
