Post What is your best pull ever?

My best pull was when I was 15. I went to a Swap Meet and this guy was selling packs. He had 1994 SP...which was a HOT PRODUCT....at the time. $8.00 packs. And I bought one pack. When I opened the pack...I saw a Heath Shuler Die Cut Hologram...which was a high booker....but what I didn't realize was I had the card of all cards at the time. And I was just amazed at the Shuler Die Cut because he was a hot player at the time because the Redskins had drafted him so high in the draft. So I went through the rest of the pack....and there it was....One of the highest booking cards, out of the modern cards, at the time. It was the 1994 SP Dan Marino 300 TD's. Which I heard was going at a rate of one per case or something of that nature. It was selling close to $250. I just saw the vendor's face light up.

I made such a commotion that the guy actually got more people to buy more packs because when everybody just saw me walk away with a $250 dollar card.

Well I ended up trading the card. A SportsCard Shop owner offered me a 100 bucks but I swapped it for a box of Topps Finest and some more Finest packs because I wanted the "45" Jordan from the packs so bad. I ended up getting a load of rookies from that set. And the Marino ended up booking now for $25.00 dollars and the card itself sells for around 3-8 dollars on eBay. But it was a pull of a lifetime for a 15 year old kid...at the time. I'd imagine it would be like pulling a Peyton Manning Auto low #d auto now from a $20 dollar pack because $8 bucks a pack was uncommon for 1995.

Man my luck has been horrible as of late. I think the nicest thing I pulled...and it didn't actually get pulled was getting a pack from Tri-Star today...which ended up being opened. And it turned out to be a McGwire Game Used bat. I think that's the closest I've gotten lately.

Mine was in '98. I got a retail box of Upper Deck football from Wal-Mart. When I was opening them at home, I was hoping for a Randy Moss rookie. Instead I got a John Elway Jersey card. At the time it booked for $450. I traded it last year but it's been my pride and joy for years. Since then, my best pull happened this week. A Jimmie Johnson Press Pass autograph.

Hmmm... I always like these threads. I've had some amazing pulls in the last couple of years, but I bust a LOT of wax.

My 05 Trilogy Lebron / Kobe dual auto/jsy #/10 (pictured on my site) just sold it on ebay for $800.
I pulled a Jordan auto from 04 Ult Coll BV $800
Pulled the Lebron auto from Ultimate Collection BV$600 and from UD Finite BV$750. I also pulled a Tiger red SOTT auto from 01 SPA that books $500 and a Ted Williams 3 clr patch #/10 from 04 SP GU Patch that I sold for $550 on ebay as well. And my other big FB pull was from my first box of 04 Donruss Elite, I pulled the Triple Manning auto. (Eli/Peyton/Archie) I got $382 on ebay for that one. Those are my better pulls.

Some of my favorites though were lower dollar cards of guys I just hadn't pulled autos of though. For example, my first Ripken auto was from one of those $15 UD High-Number update sets... It was #/99 and booked 180. I also pulled 2 different Manning autos from 04 SPGU football, a Kobe auto from 03/04 SP GU, my Ripken / Tejada dual from Ult Coll, my Maddux auto #/10 from Ult Coll, Griffey Jr/ Griffey Sr Dual auto from Ult Coll and my Clemens auto/jsy from Ult Coll. (UC baseball was VERY good to me this year) Also got my one and only Pujols auto pull from 04 Showcase. In fact, I was PO'd when I pulled it cuz it didn't say who it was. Just "congratulations, you've received a sweet sigs autographed card" no numbering, no player name..nothing. Turned out to be pujols though...then I got excited. :)

My absolute favorite pull though was in 1999. I (and my gf at the time, now my wife) were busting 2 boxes of Bowmans Best football. She got all excited and started giggling and oohing and ahhing... I said "what???" She turns it over and shows me a Tim Couch Locker Room autographs card. Keep in mind, he was the #1 pick, that card was a $250 card when it first booked. It was the very first autograph I had ever gotten (technically she pulled it, I'm still bitter about that. :), it was also the first card I ever had graded (BGS 9) and it was hands down the most expensive card I had ever pulled. In 98 I pulled a Fleer blue brilliants Randy Moss that ended up booking $150... Also pulled a Cade McNown autographed shoe from Skybox and an awesome Randy Moss patch from 99 Skybox that had almost the entire viking head in it. Of course back then, they just valued it like any patch...what a bummer.

Great thread. I love reading about these great pulls!

Ummm... A Hideki Matsui 2003 Upper Deck First Pitch Rookie card BV $20.

And then my Phil Nevin 2003 Upper Deck GU jersey #80/100 BV $15

I know it is a sad thing that these are my pride and joy. But hey for coming from a place that doesn't have a card shop, it's not that bad.
