Is it just me......
I saw the "thoughts from the boss" set that was released in series 4 this year. At first I thought, not a bad card to pull.
After seeing the Gracie/White dual on ebay, I thought there was some irony there.
The Gracies (mainly Royer) are responsible for the creation and brainchild that is the UFC, yet Royce averages less than 100,000 a year while Dana is makin' eleventy billion a year. My guess is the thought from the boss is "Thanks".

You do reallize Royce got $400K for fighting Matt Hughes at UFC 60 right?
If you think he makes less than $100K a year, your nutz.
I was good friends with the owner of the gym I used to train at (he even cornered me).
In 2006 BJ Penn came and did a seminar at our gym and the owner told me that after everything was said and done, BJ cleared $25K for the 2 day seminar and that was after the gym took their cut. $25K for one weekend and that was 2006.
These guys if they have name recognition can make huge money doing seminars and believe me, to fans Royce is a HUGE name.

That doesnt even include sponserships, Appearances, PPV cuts, DVD sales, Video games, Toys, etc etc
These guys are getting PAID. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

You're missing the point by a lot.
The Hughes match was one of his bigger and later fights in the ufc. Zuffa had Dana involved way before UFC 60. His last UFC fight before that was UFC 5.
His private training and school in LA are his own income separate from UFC earnings.
His K-1 matches might've paid somewhat well, but again, how does that compare?
He made 400k in one match in the UFC, which I'm sure is much more than he made in any of the first 5. As one of the pioneers of Gracie Jiu-jitsu, I think his name goes a long way for how he's respected and how sought after his clinics and school are.
Which, even then, he has private lessons for 150 an hour. At least that was the rate 2 years ago.

Dude, I guess I just don't understand the point you are trying to make here.
What are you saying? That the fertitta's should just call up Royce and say "Yo Royce, You are the pioneer of our sport so here is a million dollars. Thanks for everything you did!"
I don't get it. Are you saying that Dana does not deserve what he is paid? Are you saying that Gracie was UNDER paid in the beginning? I don't see the point in this thread at all. Dana would be in the position he is in with or without Royce. he may be a prick sometimes but he is an incredibly smart business man. The UFC would have suceeded with or without Gracie. Gracie made it what it is today...he was a pioneer. I'll give you that. But what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Also, I should add Royce wasnt even supposed to be the Gracie entered in UFC 1.
It was supposed to be Rickson but he didnt want to fight for the amount Rorion could muster up as the winning prize ($50K).
I am not sure what you are saying though. I mean they inducted Royce into the HOF. They paid him $400K for his last UFC fight when Hughes made $55K. They just did an Ultimate Royce Gracie show on spike.
I am sure Dana is thankful but hes not going to lick someones ™™™ just because back 17 years ago they knew something no one else knew.

400,000 for a fight is a good amount in 2006. I can't think of anyone besides maybe Chuck Lidell and Randy Couture that got paid that much for a single match.
If anything Royce shouldn't have even taken the fight, he was in no codition to take on A prime Matt Hughes.

Exactly what i was getting ready to say Matty!! I'm sure by the time then end of the month rolls around Royce does just as well as Dana. To me he deserves what he gets he's has made UFC what it is today. Theres been alot of other guys who helped create the UFC.

I would actually say with out Zuffa the UFC would be unkown, god knows how much they spent to make UFC afloat. Yeah Dana owns 10% but Zuffa put millions of dollers to get the ufc where it is today.
