As a Bruins fan, I'm glad the hype is tied up in Hall and Subban, it makes getting a hold of Seguin's cards that much easier. Time will of course tell the tale as to which player is most valuable to his respective team. If it's Seguin, that's great, if it's Subban or Hall, great for them, either way all three players are solid, so hopefully they all give us years to debate whose impact is/was felt more.

Seems like the #1 draft pick is usually at the top?
Maybe because even people not in the hobby are aware of the #1 pick, whereas lower picks are less recognizeable. People who collect the other sports may still dive into hockey and will immediately think the #1 pick is the best?
Just a thought haha I have no idea why it happens.

I concur! I am a habs fan so Subban is my guy, but this Skinner kid can play. I think he is the most underrated of the top rookies. I believe he is Carolina's leading scorer at the momment.

Great Thread! I feel that among the high end products such as UD the cup. Crosby's rc was ridiculously high in book value. Even Ovechkin didn't come close. I haven't seen Stamkos or Tavares come close to that even though they have huge hobby love. Do anyone of you think there will be another rookie that will have a book value as high as Crosby did in his rookie year among the high end products?

The Crosby and Ovechkin Cup RC's went up in value as time went on and after several Becketts following their initial release. I remember how shocked everyone was at the time when their first Beckett pricing came out, then sales surpassed that value and Beckett kept playing catch-up for several issues. Their present day pricing depends totally upon their patch coloring. I was recently offered $15,000 for my 3 color
Crosby Cup RC and turned it down. I've had several people ask about it and ask if I knew of one somewhere for sale, since they seem to have dried up. As for Ovechkin, his 3 color's are around but his 4 color Cup RC's are scarce so they command higher prices. I mention all this because I don't think Beckett pricing to be out of whack for their Cup RC's when you know pricing or actual sales for their better colored patches.
The question with Stamkos and Tavares is whether they'll withstand the test of time and play well and rack up points. So far Stamkos continues to do well so I'd expect his Cup RC's, and again the nicer patched ones in particular, to go up in value.
People would be surprised about the number of collectors out there with "deep pockets" willing to pay for harder to find top RC's of key players...plus there's admittedly several "investors" around who'll similarly pay top dollar for cards they think will appreciate in value and give them a good return on their outlay. If you watch who the buyers are for certain key Cup RC's being sold on the bay now, you'll find it can sometimes be the same buyer picking up high-end cards with nicer patches.

How much would a 1 color Crosby or Ovechkin the cup rookie go for anyway?
