Question on Subban
A buddy of mine just pulled a P K Subban retro YG from this years U/D. I know you cant ask for prices here so lets say it this way, does anyone have any idea of the value it would bring trade wise? Aso what are the odds on this card being pulled. Thanks in advance.

I'm really not sure what the answer is but on eBay he would be looking at a very decent return! Us Habs fan are somewhat PK crazy these days lol...
There's one on eBay with a BIN of $75 right now...

What is the big deal here...
You can't just look at "ebay" and get all your pricing
it's too inconsisitent. You have people asking way too much, and auctions definatley don't tell you the price of a card.
the Beckett is the only way to see what a card is worth LOW-HIGH
I would but 20-50 on it, but i'm kinda guessing.
ebay is a buyer's market, so going there for pricing is dumb

You would put a low value of $20 on a card that sells consistently for more than $50? Please pull one and sell it to me for your price.

in robcynd's defense, I think he was just predicting what the 'price guide' would state the 'book value' at. He wasn't saying he would sell it for $20 now. Honestly, I think the 'price guide' would state it at 20-50. When something new comes out, it always sells on the 'high side' and eventually when things calm down, especially when the next new product comes out, it might as well drop down to this range.
But I'll go ahead and hedge here cause I may be wrong as I may not have factored in Subban's ever growing 'hobby love'. I mean look at those Victory gold, black, red cards selling....

Here's the rub though - and this is what caused me blow up at Beckett last year - Beckett's role and responsibility isn't to set the market based on future projections; Beckett's role and responsibility is to reflect the market based on what has transpired.
Obviously eBay is not the only source out there that a person can utilize to gauge a value on a card - indeed, when conducting research consulting a variety of sources is always the best option. But if there hasn't been a card sold on eBay for less than, say for the sake of discussion, $35 and goes as high as $70 on some initial sales, people are going to seriously question Beckett's credibility and sourcing if they were to set the card's value range as $20-$50. People are going to want to know where they can find a $20 copy of that card on an open market, especially if they just came back from a little card show, like oh I don't know The Expo, and the card didn't sell for any less than $45 at said little hobby gathering.
If in six months a Subban Retro YG consistently sells for $20-$50, put the downward arrows on it and make it a $20-$50 card then. Right now, that card is a lot more than that.

I guess we can use the word Beckett around here (I didn't know if using it violated any forum rules so I just kept using 'price guide'). Anyways, with Beckett it's like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg? You always see new product sell at pretty high prices and then Beckett comes out and somehow lets the air out of those prices. Or is it Beckett had another source justifying their prices other than ebay? Maybe Beckett found that one guy that was able to find a Subban retro for $20 off the street instead of ebay. The LO column does mean with 'extensive shopping', one can find the card at that price where as the HI column means it's the 'retail price' implying one just buys the card without shopping around, researching, etc.
Anyone ever been in the offices of Beckett? Is it really one guy checking completed auctions on ebay or phoning up the odd LCS here and there and asking 'hey what did you sell this and this for lately?'
But back on topic, if we were just to look at ebay for this subban retro and only on ebay, then the price guide should read 'LO' of $50 and 'HIGH' of $100 (I'm sure there was one guy on ebay that must have not done their research and just did the BIN right away on the first day or whatever.....
Gawd I love this forum, it's too bad work gets in the way of me staring at this forum all day :)
