couldnt agree more, before this year I had thought of Ovechkin as slightly better then Crosby. Now I realize Crosby can be put in his own league. With a 24 game point streak (even though he got very lucky to make it too 24 if anyone saw the goal last night) he seems to be THE best player in the NHL today. Do I think he will pass Gretzky's records, no. But I think he will make it quite high up in the leaderboards

I hate Crosby... but I totally respect his skill. He's gifted.

Honestly, as much as it hurts , NO ONE will beat Gretzky's point total. Not Ovie. Not Crosby. Not Anyone.
That being said, I believe this season is very good evidence to support the fact that Crosby > Ovechkin.

Ovechkin is a great player and fun to watch.But Crosby is the best all around player that there is right now.He has to be one of the hardest working players that works at all aspects of the game(faceoffs,defensive play and so on).I doubt that anyone will ever get close to Gretzky's records.The game is so much different now.Goalies are so much better and the players are so much faster and bigger now.

Crosby has definitely stepped it up this season, I wonder if he can continue at this pace for the remainder of the season and move to another level(if there is one) next season.

It seems like Crosby wants it more than Ovi does. Crosby works probably 100% harder than Ovi does on his game during the season and maybe more importantly during the off season. While Crosby is at the gym running and working out Ovi is probably on a boat down south drinking beer. Like a few years ago when Crosby was losing a lot of faceoffs, he worked on it and is probably now one of the best faceoff people in the league who can actually be 100% in faceoffs in some game. Crosby's legs are like tree trunks, I know a guy who worked at Duggers, where Crosby gets his suits (they are like $3000+ suits btw) and he said Crosby actually has to get his suits tailored because his legs are so out of proportion to his height its crazy. I am in no way a fan of Crosby, but I have to respect his work ethic towards hockey. I don't think Ovi will come close to Gretzky and I don't think Crosby will either.

I agree, I think Crosby puts in the work ethic and has the determination to want to be the best guy all around in the league. First few years was great but when Ovechkin took over people said that he was the best goal scorer and Crosby was more of a passer. What happens the next year? Crosby comes out firing and leads the league in goals. Now he's doing even better this year and his shooting percentage overall for his career is among one of the league highest

Crosby is already 3 seasons behind Gretzky at this point. He probably will be in Dionne/Francis Territory, as you still have to account for injury. He's been knocked out before, and he plays hard. He's sure to miss some more time in his career.

sorry but ovi is garbage compared to crosby. he is all flash, no actual skill. crosby outscored him taking 70 less shots lmfao, so crosby didn't even have to try to beat ovi and ovi had to try his butt off.

o yeah look at this year ovi has more shots and crosby has more then double the goal total, there is no more comparing the two. ovechkin will never ever outscore crosby again (as long as crosby plays shooter)

Ovechkin has 282 goals (only once under 50 goals) in 5 1/2 seasons to Crosby's 213 (only once over 50 goals)

These guys are "ELITE" - BOTH have played outstanding since they entered the NHL. Crosby is the Poster Boy for the NHL....Ovechkin is Human Highlight Reel.....These guys are GREAT for the Sport - Look how they are pumping up the Winter Classic....A FREAKIN regular season match up.....and its like they are playing one on one in the Stanley Cup playoffs - even have them on HBO....

I am going to say Crosby is lighting it up this year - NO DOUBT! He is showing that he is the Best in this league right now.....I am also going to say that Ovechkin is going through a rough patch and it will be interesting to see how he deals with it.......but to say Ovechkin is Garbage.....THAT is sharing what you see in your Rosey Crosby Glasses.....

what is wrong with you people today? do you not see how horrible the goalies were backk then? the garbage defensive game, which also lacked the physicality of today? players are also much stronger and in much better shape.don't bring up hooking/holding lmao these are grown men.

not to mention gretzky played on an all star team and very stacked teams for the majority of his career. and no one ever tried to hammer gretz like crosby

the elite players today get 100 points on average. the elite players back then were getting 130 points every year.

and by the way we wont see a crosby or ovechkin for another 10-15 years at least,

maybe even more for crosby because he is so well rounded and showing signs of hitting an unimaginable prime.

Sounds like your downplaying what Gretzky accomplished in his career -
He had vision like no other...he made those around him better - ALL OF THEM!!! Greztky more than doubled the 2nd highest point player on the Oilers in the 80s....Look at Kurri and Messier stats -they got better as the years went on......Granato and Sandstrom wouldnt even be pt/game players without Gretzky......
As for Crosby's linemates....THAT is coaching...and drafting/trading/signing players. Pittsburgh had top 5 pick 5 years in a row - they got some really good players....so why is he playing with Dupius and Kunitz? (maybe because they cant afford any more great players due to Crosby/Malkin/Staal/Fleury Salary) - So Crosby has to make Kunitz/Dupuis into Kurri/Anderson....
And you know why no one hacked at Gretzky like they do Crosby???? Because they knew if they did, they would pay a price they didnt want to pay.....If Crosby gets hacked all the time, maybe the Pens should invest in an enforcer that actually scares people......

As for elite scoring 130 every year, this is true - some of the elite were getting 130/year BUT no one except Gretzky and Super Mario scored more than 155 (total of 13 times) and not even Super Mario hit the 200 mark....which Gretzky did 4 times......70+ points more than the elites were scoring.....Can Crosby score 70+ pts more than the elites today? AND do it year after year? If so, then he can be compared somewhere in the Arena with Gretzky

Were goalies as bad as you state? Maybe but think about the size of the Pads, the size of the goalies playing today - most are about 5-6 inches taller than back then - the pads are much bigger - the training & equipment is much better - Everything about the game is better from a player standpoint
