What? Panini using REPLICA jerseys?
Hi all,
I recently picked up a Colin Wilson Certified Fabrics of the Game card via eBay. The image is attached.
I thought this card was pretty amazing and the price was right, but now that I have it in hand it's very clear that this is from a number patch on a replica jersey. If you look at the scan you can see that the yellow stitching is real, but the grey stitching on the white number is screen printed. In addition, the white and yellow layers are on the same plane and not two separate pieces of fabric.
The back of the card says it's guaranteed as game worn. I have a hard time believing that. And my other thought was that it could be faked, but given the design of the card that would be near impossible.
My question -- is this standard or is something going on here?

Nice title.

So because one layer of jersey does or doesn't have stitching you assume this card has a replica piece?
If you had a similar game worn to reference too I think it would land more credence to your concerns.
I'm not freaking out, especially when I see images of them hauling a cart PILED with hockey gamers through their offices. And when said cart is topped with an Ovechkin, Brodeur, etc., which cost a pile of loot to obtain, I feel a WHOLE lot better...............

Okay, if I'm not mistaken (and please show me if I am), there are three spots in the predators uniform set where there would be blue jersey -> yellow patch -> white (anything).

Home Jersey Numbers
Home Jersey Piping
Away Jersey Piping
We can throw out away jersey piping by looking at this picture from Mei Gray - clearly doesn't fit the profile: http://akamai.edeal.com/images/catal...img9411199.jpg
We can throw out the home jersey piping by doing the same: http://akamai.edeal.com/images/catal...img9411231.jpg
So that leaves us with the back numbers on the home jersey. I cannot find an up close image of those numbers on a gamer, but I have to be honest and say that I've never seen a team use two color uniform numbers with one layer of fabric. It's always two layers with tackle twill. And here's a Shea Weber card from 09-10 the cup that clearly shows that color progression with stitching from the yellow to white: http://i.ebayimg.com/23/!B8thk+gBmk~...1NBQ~~0_12.JPG
So there's my investigation. I tried calling their customer service and got nothing. Any help would be appreciated.Last edited by Bojangles; 12-15-2010 at 07:33 PM.

No? It seems it comes exactly from that part.

I don't think so -- there's no break in the fabric. It's literally one piece of fabric colored yellow, white, and grey. There's no stitching or individual pieces - they're all screen printed on.

If the piece had stitching consistent with a jersey seam then I'd definitely agree with this one, but the blue jersey/yellow patch seam seen in his card has the distinctive patch stitching... weird.

Anyone know how Nashville numbers and letters their preseason jerseys? I remember a couple of years ago the Rangers used heat pressed letters for theirs and some of them were used in SPGU By The Letter.

Adding in the fact it has a rather large radius at the top, I'd say its a jersey number. A seam near a fabric joint would have reinforced double stitching.
