Wisniewski is scheduled to join the team on Wednesday in Tampa Bay.
Wisniewski, 26, played in 32 of the Islanders' 34 games thus far this season. He led the team's defencemen in scoring with 21 points.
Since he first joined the NHL back in 2005-06, Wisniewski recorded a total of 118 points in 286 regular season games with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Anaheim Ducks and the New York Islanders.
A native of Canton, Michigan, Wisniewski was a fifth-round selection, 156th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Wisniewski played his junior hockey with the Plymouth Whalers in the Ontario Hockey League between 2000 and 2004. Following the 2003-04 season when he recorded 70 points in 50 regular season games (17 goals, 53 assists), he was selected to the OHL and the Canadian Hockey League First All-Star Teams, and was named the OHL and the CHL Defenseman of the Year. He also represented the United States at the World Junior Championships in 2003 and 2004.

Good move - the Habs badly need somebody to help out on the blueline. With Markov gone, Josh hurt, the geezers being turnover machines, PK in the pressbox instead of on the ice, and Picard and Weber giving me fits every night, something was needed to shore up the corps. I'd imagine he'll be on the PP.

Good move by the Habs - this guy is a gamer.
No need to bring in Subban now.

He's a decent defenseman. I wanted him on the Red Wings so that Holland can get rid of that Overpaid, Out Of Position, Pylon, Brad Stuart.
Nieuwsk is a gamer for sure and he likes hammering punks like Avery and Cooke.

What are the Islanders thinking??
WHat are the Islanders thinking, trading James Wisniewski to the Canadiens for 2011 Compensatory Second Round Selection as well as a Conditional Fifth Round Pick in 2012. My first reaction why? Islanders are very thin at defense so they decide to trade 1 of their better players.
He had 21 pts tied with 3 other players for the team lead. WHat are your thoughts??

What are the Islanders thinking? Are they giving up on the season and also on their players? Are they in rebuliding mode? Doesn't make sense to me. frusterated!!!

I feel sorry for the Isles fans, with Streit's injury he was their best D. How can you let him go for draft picks?
Anyways the Jackets could have used him, a bit disappointed. Good trade for the Habs. Send Weber down.

It does not make much sense, he is 26, a nice defenseman. I do not see how he did not fit into their future plans. Good for him though, at least he gets to get away from this mess.

I completely agree, awful move on their part. A second rounder is all well and good but as has been pointed out, a still somewhat young, offensive guy who is playing well for you doesn't make much sense getting rid of him. At least my boy Robbie Schremp is still on a nice tear :)

You never know, he might get traded as well. It seems that once you start doing well, you are trade bait.
