    Devastated - I Hate Redemptions

As you guys may be aware I've been hunting hard for the Josh Gorges Hot Prospects Shield - it's his only shield card but like so many of his autographed content in his rookie year my great fear was that it was a redemption. I made an inquiry with UD to find out whether the card was live at packout or was indeed a redemption. Today I got the news...

    Richard,

We don't show that card was ever produced. Our deal with him has expired so whatever is out there is out there for him. He failed to return a variety of labels to us so he was removed from a variety of products.

As I'm sure you guys can imagine, this is crushing news for me. While I was never overly optimistic that the card would surface after all these many years, still...this one is just painful to digest.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I don't like that either. I have bought boxes just for a shot at a couple cards I realy wanted just to find out they were never packed out. Too bad they didn't sell whole sheets, you could get a gamer, cut the shield and make your own probably cheaper lol! I see someone is always selling the Cup cut up sheets, but is asking to much. I wouldn't cut up a gamer for that either.

Better now than if you had paid for the redemption to find this out....

Buddy, I guess you'll have to take it up with Josh, sounds like he lagged on the labels. Sorry to hear that man, but there's more money to spend no other cards now.

And as if that weren't enough, I also asked about the SP Game Used Autographs /5, which is another one I'd never seen (despite having 3 of the 5 Rookie Exclusives Silver in my possession)...

. The main RC parallel should be one of the ones we didn't get labels back for so that one wouldn't be out there either.

On the upside, it is two fewer cards I have to chase. But man, that's two cards I really would have liked to own.

Yeah he was a bit of a problem child. It's just weird that they have sticker autos for stuff like Ultra Fresh Ink, Trilogy Scripts, and the other Hot Prospects parallels. Hurts the heart.

LOL For sure eh? I guess back in good old 05-06 he never figured he'd end up in the hottest of all hockey hotbeds.

So they made the card, but never packed it out - becuase they couldn't get the Autos back from him??

I'd be really curious to know the answer to this one then..... does that mean the unsigned card is sitting in a stack in a vault somewhere?

Or becuase they never got autos back from him, they didn't make the card at all, and just failed to remove it from the checklist?

It's one of those very interesting "chicken or egg" scenarios isn't it? Do they make the card and wait for the autograph sheets to arrive, or do they wait for the autograph sheets and then start making cards.

I would think it's the former given that we've seen unsigned autograph cards slip out on to the market before. I'd believe they would have at least made the redemption cards and packed those out when the products went to market, to market (hehe), and then it just turned out that they never got the autographs back. But it's all speculative.
