    Learning the Ropes

Apparently I'm in need of some training. I have tried to set up offers and trades via PMs, but in very few cases have I got a response. In the cases I make a cash offer, I admit my ignorance and make a opening/starting offer, fully expecting a reply PM with a price adjustment. Same with the trades. I generally go through a bucket and let them know the cards I'm interested in, not the cards I'm asking for in trade yet, and I get the silent treatment.

This isn't the case with all, just most. I've had a few responses. I have checked to see their last active time, so I know they've been on the forum since my PMs. I know I'm a noob, just tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Welcome to SCF! This is very common in these forums. No sense of etiquette or courtesy. Unfortunately, there are no rules against it since it'll be tough to enforce. Best way is to just move on. I also advise against dealing with sellers that say "PM me with your offer" or "taking the best offer" unless 1) It's a ridiculously rare card and/or 2) it's a must-have for your collection. There ought to be a forum rule regarding that as well, but that's just me. Keep plugging away. You'll soon find someone easy to deal with. And for the tough ones, just put them on your ignore list like I do.

    A hearty welcome to SCF!

Sometimes folks are wary of trading with new people, which is a little odd as we do have protections in place to safeguard our well-established traders by requiring that new members send out their end of the deal first. Others have busy schedules and don't always immediately tackle PM's. Others just honestly forget. And some folks do ignore you without the courtesy of sending a response. When it comes to sales offers, this I do find to be strange...maybe it's just me but I've never been one to flat out ignore someone offering me money. LOL

All of that said, there are some absolutely fantastic traders here that will be happy to get some deals done with you and help you to become familiar with the site.

    Best of luck!

Welcome to SCF first and foremost.

I wish I could tell you that this is an isolated issue, but I think we all do this on occasion. Most of the time it is not malicious, just forgetfulness (most of mine).

There are a number of people that are going to be willing to trade and discuss trades with you. Also, as a general rule of thumb, after 24-48 hours, if you have no reply, then i'd move on.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I have run into some good traders and had some good interactions. I know I try to respond to every PM, whether it be positive or negative, just to acknowledge them. I guess I'm off base a bit expecting the same in return.

Overall its a good experience here, so I'll keep my eyes open and the Pms rolling.

@Slyner77: I'm sure I have the McDonalds cards you are looking for, just gotta wait until I get home to go through them. I'll send you a PM when I can. I'm disappointed McD cut that promotion this year.
